The employee that misses 2 - 3 days a week and is a problem? You bet he is...... This bad apple makes all of the other employees work harder to make up for him and the union will protect him.....And that makes him a bad guy??

School unions make it so an incompetent or uncooperative tenured employee can be fired after they get a chance at Super High Intensive Training. But the supervisor has to document it well, and most are too busy or lazy to do it consistently, so a the threat of a hearing often keeps the employee there. That’s exactly what the problem is. My other folks need to work harder to make up for his missing labor and it creates animosity.
If anything, I feel bad for my good employees so I need to do what I need to do for them.
My last job we had a horrible HR woman... She was hispanic and had come from a California government job ( Another transplant to Oregon) and she seemed to be racist towards other NON hispanic people.... About 30 employees had an intervention at the end of work one day with the owner over her...... She is still there as far as I know..... Used to joke she had caught the owner with a hooker...........In this case we are all non-Union in a corporate type office, but there are still things that HR will not touch due to lawsuit potential.
I will say, in 15 years this is the first time I’ve really had a problem with an individual like this. It really takes up so much of my time. I can’t say anything bad about any of the other individuals I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring
BullAnd there is your typical Union employee.....

BullHis actions make him a bad guy, and a lousy employee. Wether or not he's union doesn't really matter, but many of us have seen this type of behavior from people who are Union- and therefor cannot be fired.![]()

on your stories, too.I was responding to your blanket opinion that a union, all union, employees could not be fired. Not true I'm my profession and I know the same is true in construction. Peer pressure will make you perform. If you don't you hit the bricks. Someone mentioned a one man layoff. In other words you just got fired. You get too many of those and you'll have trouble getting a job and lasting any time.Sounds like you were a good Union Rep. Obviously some of us had different experiences. Don't lump all of us together, either. We could just as easily callon your stories, too.
Grounds for dismissal. BuhbyeMy problem employee no show/no called today...

He must of been listening to Right wing radio....... LOLMy problem employee no show/no called today...
Because iit makes it very difficult to get rid of worthless employees.....Corporations spend millions in union opposition. Ask yourself why.
I guess the manager of the Camaro/Firebird line I used to tip a couple of beers with listened to right wing radio too, even though he is Black.... The union stories he told me were truly unbelievable...... Stories like having an electrical plug from a machine on the line come out and having to wait for hours for the " Electrical Union " guys to finally get there ( in their golf cart) to plug in back in so the could start the line to build cars again...I was responding to your blanket opinion that a union, all union, employees could not be fired. Most, not all, opinions on unions come from right wing radio. I used to hear it all the time how unions are ruining business. A contract negotiation is agreed upon by both parties. If it causes issues with a companies finacial outlook then that is their fault. Corporations spend millions in union opposition. Ask yourself why. A union contract keeps things honest and I'll support working people fighting for a decent living over a billion dollar corporation every day.
