Okay, this is a weird one. When I shift to 2-3, sometimes a somewhat loud 'zip' sound emits from (I believe) the shifter. Now it doesn't happen all the time, but it gives me goosebumps when it does... it seems to only happen when I stay on the clutch a bit too long when taking off from a stop. Really--it only seems to happen when I do that!

Other than that, I don't have any problems shifting into 3rd...just the sound, and it startles me. Could it be the Tri-Ax? Or something more?

You sure its not a grinding noise? Do you feel any resistance in the shifter as well?

No, not grinding. the sound is a mix between a pop and a zip and it sounds like it's coming from the shifter... with the window down, I don't hear anything elsewhere..no abnormal resistance.. but it does startle me enough to think there may be..but no, there's really not.
