Redline Tuning Hood-Struts

I've got the Redline Tuning struts. I got the "Elite" ones that cost $110 and have a 4 year guarantee. Their is some drilling involved and you need a rivot gun also. They work really smooth. I believe their are also ones made by MRT that require no drilling and are a direct bolt on if the drilling and rivoting is'nt for you.

I got them for Christmas. Excellent quality and the instructions, which were 4-pages, color with lots of pics, were awesome. One added benefit is that now my hood closes a lot easier too. It's like the shocks "suck" the hood shut. Great product in my opinion.

yeah.....mines going on a black car with a seriously blinged out motor.....so I'm liking black mounts and shiny struts:shrug:

agree on the touch-up paint = no rust.....the job will be done properly....I'm pretty anal about the car:nice:

I picked up a set of these but haven't installed them yet. They look to be well made and the guys at the company were great in responding to my questions. I have the Cobra R hood so its not a straight forward install but one of the sales/tech guys has a R hood and sent me pics of his car with how he installed them. Thats pretty good service for a $100 part.

Watch when you take them off, they still rust. Trust me.

I really liked the way the RedLines worked, I thought they were sexier than the MRTs but the MRTs will not rust, AND I didn't have to worry about holes in my aftermarket hood.

My Dad and I installed the RL kit in 5 minutes. No impact, just a decent drill bit. I'm sure an Impact would have been nice, but it wasn't a big deal. The sheet metal screws are pretty short.

been googling around looking at the MRT ones now :bang:

aside from the no-drilling aspect....there does appear to be one major benefit (for me anyway)

lots of clearance....they're literally tucked right back at the base of the hood when it's up

from a detailing perspective, it looks to be a hell of a lot easier with the MRT's

the underside of my new hood will be show quality with some custom air-brushing....so I'm gonna be detailing/polishing the underside of the hood as much as the top....let alone the clearance issues getting my paws in there to detail the motor and firewall etc

I've got an impact, but I didn't have a socket that small in 3/8 or 1/2 drive (nor an adapter to go down to)...in addition, in the end, I had to use a larger drill bit - there was absolutely no way those screws were going into the holes I had drilled. I couldn't even get the first part of the screw thru...not even thru the bracket itself. Something has changed here - either their instructions or the hardware, but it simply would not work. I ended up drilling 3/16" holes (same as the rivet size holes) and they were still very tight but managable.
Otherwise, the install was a snap - very happy with them. :nice:

Ya, the recommended bit size is a good amount smaller than the diameter of the bolt supplied in the kit.

My friend had a Makita cordless impact gun and it saved me a great deal of sweat loss and shouted verbal profanity.

I got the CDC one and they fit perfectly, no drilling just 4 bolts to remove and 2 to loosen and your done took me maybe 15 minutes to install them alone in my driveway with a ratchet.....


No more sucky hood prop FTW!!!!!
