maf probs

You might want to try cleaning the MAF before giving up on it. I'm not sure what it exactly takes to kick a code, but it's worth a shot.

If it is bad a lot of people have PMAS (used to be Pro-M) meters and like them (including me). You could also look into a grantelli or a C&L, but there are mixed opinions on the last one.

As far as messing up your tune, I wouldn't think so so long as you got it calibrated the same way the one you have now is. Do you have upgraded injectors? If not, just get one calibrated for 19# injectors and you should be good to go :nice:

What was the code? There is not a code for a 'bad MAF'.

Semantics aside, I agree with HGFH. :nice:

After you clean things up, clear the codes and rescan the car. Also, if you can view PIDs and the car cuts out fairly often, see if you can capture a stream while it cuts out.

Good luck.

It only cuts out while im drivin and its an uprgraded maf idk what size but its pro m and its a cobra so ill need one for 24 lbs injectors. and i cleaned the maf but it was already clean. and i dont remember what the code was i just know it said somethin was wrong with the maf.

If you have a Cobra, you'll need one for 19lb injectors, even though your car came factory equipped with 24s. The GT and Cobra shared a common MAF between the two, and the Cobra had the calibration for the larger injectors done by the ECM, not the MAF.

If you use an over-oiled k&n air filter it will get a lot of build-up on the element and not dissipate heat like it should. And all it needs is cleaning 99 times out of 100. Other things can get it dirty as well but it takes a lot of time to do so w/ a stock air filter that isn't changed regularly.

After you clean it, remove the ground at the battery for a minute and reconnect it to reset the comp. so it can re-learn the "new" sensor.

takes longer than a minute. more like 30 mins doing it that way.
he could disconnect the battery and then turn on hte lights or something of that nature to reset them.

I always remove the ground and turn the ignition on to clear my KAM. If anything is stored in the capacitors in the pcm that will remove it.

I don't know if the headlights would work. I have heard depressing the brake pedal before, so I guess that would be the same.

But I still don't get how you are supposed to discharge a capacitor with no ground for the current to flow. JMO.

I know what you mean Scott ;)
So much of this stuff I don't understand

I can say I've noticed these things about trying to clean out all
the K's from previous use :D

With just a batt disco

Sometimes they are all gone with a 15 minute disco
and
Other times they are not

At 20 minutes or more ... I have always seen them gone

Another thing I have noticed :)

When they did not clear .....
I noticed my digital dash clock
did not reset to 12:00

Now ... about a ... Quick Reset

Yes ... From what I've seen said ... Its about discharging the Caps
and
I usually give it around 5 seconds to discharge

I have tried the following with success
and
In each method ... I saw the 12:00 reset as well

Headlights
Horn
Brakes

I really think anything that draws a good bit of current
would work ... but the above are what I've tried

I usually do one of the first two cause its easy to reach
through the open window :nice:

Another thing :D

I have not done the different family strategy thing on
a different switch position because the few times I had
some funky looking stuff going on or issues of my
current file not doing a clean upload ..........

I've been able to clear things up by loading my latest
file on the other 3 positions.

For me ... It just seems like a chance to invite trouble

well im ordering the c&l intake maf kit so i will give you feedback on it once i install it. ...and the resetting the cpu thing has me thinking....when i delete my egr i wonder if i reset the comp if it will know its gone and delete it on its own from the settings...

if i grab a the sensor out of a gt will i be able to put that in my pro-m housing and have that work?

It seems to me that the Pro M housing would need to be exactly the same size as the OEM housing. Otherwise you will be moving more or less air than anticipated (per the MAS). And if your aftermarket MAF was the same size as stock, I'd wonder why you have it anyways.

As an e.g., if you have a P-M 77, the stock sensor being used in the P-M housing would lead to a lean condition.

The MAF and MAS really need to be a matched pair for best results.

Good luck.

Wow, that must have been very annoying to wait 20 minutes betwixt each small change to the tables. I did the brake method and it seemed to work. I am actually thinking of trying disconnecting the positive cable instead and see if the clock resets. Actually, I think I am gonna try both. This will be interesting.

I ain't a real bright bulb (no pun intended) but..............

For the Capacitor stuff, the computer's caps are connected to earth and to the components in the system which require power. The charge desires to flow from one side of the cap to the other. No battery cable needed.

511 can indeed be from a chip.

With the MAF code, testing the output voltage is always a hot idea.

I'd take a look at your TPS signal return as well.

Good luck.
