Modular timing sprockets, guides, tensioners 2V vs 4V

Ok I need to know if there is any difference in the crank timing sprocket, crank timing-chain sprockets, timing-chain guides, timing-chain tensioners, etc between a GT and a Cobra. I would expect the chains and cam gears are different between the 2V and 4V but what about everything else?

I'm assembling all of the parts for a Cobra short block using Non-PI heads. Couldn't I use any of the GT sprockets and timing chain guides etc, on the cobra block or are those parts specific between the Cobra and GT blocks? I just assumed that "modular" still applies to those parts also. I mean, I could mix and match 96-04 GT sprockets right? Aren't they all the same (excluding cam sprockets - I know there are bolt on/press-on)? Please help.

I already have a Cobra timing cover, rear cover, oil-cooler/filter mount and electric water pump. Is there anything else that is specific to the Cobra block that will not transfer over from the GT block?

only the fixxed guides and the chain "swing arms" are different between the SOHC & DOHC.
they both use the same primary chains, tensioners and cam/crank sproctets.

now there are also 2 differnt styles of chain tensioners, 1 is the 2000 up plastic/nylon ones which have failed on some cars. then there the older style "steel" chain tensioners and you can use the "better" steel ones in place of the plastoc/nylon ones

one word of caution, there are 2 different 1 peice crank gears and 2 different crank trigger wheels and if you mix them up the engine will not turn over.

So I'd be safer with just pulling all of the timing parts off of my 96 GT motor when it comes out and transfering it directly over to the Cobra block? All of the 96 GT stuff will bolt onto the Cobra block? Would I be correct to believe that the "fixed guides and swing arms" from the Cobra are only different because of the 4V heads?

no the aluminum block uses a different piviot bolt/pin then the iron blocks, so the swing arm is different.

if your doing SOHC heads on a DOHC block, you'll need the 2V fixxed chain guides and a 2V front cover, you may need to drill 1 hole on the left foward corner on the blocks deack and 1 hole just to the left of the water pump for the 2V frt cvr

Oooh. :( I was told I'd need a 4-valve timing cover. Is the width of the deck on a 4-valve head wider than the deck of 2-valve head? I can see the physical differences in the two timing covers, but I was just going on the info I was given.

if your putting SOHC heads on a DOHC block, you'll need a SOHC (2V) front timing chain cover, NOT a DOHC (4V) front cover.

Ok. :( Thanks, Randy. I appreciate the help. :) Guess I'll start looking for those 4-valve Swing Arm pieces that you are talking about, and see about tapping new holes in my block for a 2-valve timing cover. Anything else I should know about? I was planning on an FRPP oil pump and transferring the oil pan from my GT to the 01 Cobra block. In shopping for aftermarket pans I didn't see any Cobra specific pans so I assume the GT and Cobra are the same...?
