Car turns off when im driving?

Hey everyone,
I haven't been on stangnet for the longest time, school and a girlfriend can do that to you. Recently though, i've come to my "wits end" on my 95 gt. When at crusing speeds, like the highway or onramp, my rmp needle just drops and the car dies. Sometimes however, it simply "spikes" down, and rebounds back up...almost as if i save it from dying. I've replaced the battery, wires cap rotor plugs thinking it was an electrical problem, but its still there. To date, i have H/C/I, a tko 3550, and other small addons. I also have a leak ( 2 bolts missing ) on the passenger side head/header connection. I though that could have been the reason, or that there may be a sensor in the tranny that was tampered with.....ANY help you guys could give me would be tremendous. I feel quite helpless. Thanks again, hope someone has some ideas. :SNSign:

Another vote that it could be a PIP issue. This would be more likely if your issue mostly occurs when the engine is hot (i.e. it doesn't happen when cold).

Does the fuel level seem to matter?

No codes are stored (they can be stored without illuminating the CEL)?

Good luck.

hey
where is the ignition pickup sensor? Thanks for the ideas...im leaning on it being something along the ignition/wiring lines. As an update, the car has a hard time starting after runing it, letting it sit....hot start up. I know the sn's have that problem, dont know if it has anythin to do with it. A ford tech ( car turned off on the way there ironicly ) told me possibly a) bad ignition coil b) stator's in the distributor or even ignition module ( i believe that was the metal, air cooled looking dealey on the passenger side fender ) Im going to try eveything you guys mentioned, and im very grateful for the replys. Thanks again

Hey Hissin50, no light comes on for the check engine...and funny enough, it has turned off when crusing after fillups, but only two or three times...not enough for me to tie it to anything...could that be a reason?

That used to happen to me. I finally found ou that the + connection to the fuse box was a little dirty. so i cleaned it up and it has never done it again.:nice:

Good luck

That's what i was thinking when I first read it. Mine was loose and would do the same things your describing at completely random times. It wouldn't hurt to check and it might fix your problem with no money spent

I have this EXACT same problem right now (car trouble and not being on SN in a while). I know that if I get out and jiggle the coil wire though after it dies it usually starts right back up, and the wires are brand new so I dont think thats it, I dont understand how the stator works, so can someone elaborate on why this causes the problem

my suggestion is totally off the wall, but i had my positive 4 guage amp wire weld it self to to my header and would randomly cause my engine to die. The car ran fine 99% of the time but it would randomly die then restart itself due to the momentum of the car. Replaced the wire and tied it up better and no problems since.

hey
so im leaning more and more on an electrical problem.
Black Vert....a new dis. would be the easiest, but i dont think i can fork out that money yet. Just as an update, the car is bogging at the same rmp ( about 3700 ) when i accelerate hard...i dont know if a bad dis. would affect that. Just had a clutch n flywheel put it, so i just thought it was a ****ty install....car turned off at a streetlight today...once i got it started, i stabed the gas ( out of anger of course ) and it shot up to about 3700 and stalled again. So angry, but much less thanks to everyones help. If i can get a good price on a distributor, i think i may just buy it.

problem

I have had this problem to mine was when it was hott and you turn the wheel it would stall i got a new powersteering pump because of the wine i know i need that but the pip where is that located in the distributor. I will definatly replace it if the powersteering pump does not help.
