maybe this is why they arent going that route?

I want the Shelby Cobra to become affordable like it was thruout 94-04. Right now, the Cobra is ridiculously overpriced. Plus, it's a huge gas guzzler. Just wait until the gasoline prices reach $3 or more. These cars will be sitting on the Ford lots and the Ford dealers will take thousands off the MSRP sticker price just like they did with the gas guzzlers during the late 1970's and early 1980's to get rid of them. It's only a matter of time. If you really want to own a Shelby Cobra GT 500 or a King of the Road, just wait until gasoline prices go up to "over" $3 and $4 dollars per gallon. Then you will be able to buy one really cheap.

I wasn't bashing just saying for my money I would go ZO6, debateable if it would have the collectors allure of the Shelby name plate but that's mostly based off the original 68 nonone really knows how the market will be for the new Shelbys. If I was 45-50 something and had grown up around the first Shelby's, drooled over them I'd be more likely to put up the money for one. I'm still getting used to the over-all bump in dimensions of the 05+'s the sight lines are very different, the shifter uses a rod instead of being directly connected, clutch is hydrolic vs cable. While they do ride much better all the drivers inputs have changed along with a totally new chassis, we are creatures of habit so anything new takes time to settle in.

There have always been Mustangs out of my reach, once I got to a point where I could purchase a new car. It began in 1993 when the Cobra first came out. I couldn't afford it and not until 1996 did I buy a late model and it was a used 94 GT.
I was able to buy brand new in 1999, but not the top dog Cobra(or so it seemed at the time). I do plan on buying a brand new Mustang of some sort in the future, but I put a limit of around $35-40K for it. Mustangs should not be as expensive as they are, hell no car should. But I don't control that.

I have a budget to work with, so I'll always be disappointed to some point.

Think Ford is kind of getting wrapped up in the marketablity they feel the "Shelby" name has for their cars, they are riding it as far as they can with all the new special editions. While all car prices it are going up the Mustang seems to basicly running out of it's previous price bracket. Ford should look at what they did in the late 80's and 90's with their LX 5.0's.

I do not understand all the teeth gnashing and hand wringing in these threads about new Mustangs... If you cannot afford them, too bad! Just wait until used ones hit the market :shrug:

I tell ya, you guys will criticize Ford no matter what they do. Ford cannot win with you guys :rlaugh:

basically its all the same for all manufacturers. Think about it, chevy was putting SS badges on everything, Mopar went crazy with the hemi, Fords using the resources that they have to sell cars, and jacking up the prices to make up for lost ground IMO

Yeah I dont get it either, besides most of the people complaining about it probably couldnt afford it even at MSRP. Especially since the chances of a Shelby being a DD is pretty slim, so it would be a 45,000 second car.

Ford makes a mustang for all price ranges, if you cant afford a Shelby either get a better job or buy a GT/V6.

Ford should of kept their Mustang prices under $20,000 for the V6 Mustangs and under $24,000 for all Mustang GT's. My 01 Mustang GT cost me $22,700 BRAND NEW fully loaded in the summer of 2001.
And my 02 Mustang V6 cost me $18,000 BRAND NEW fully loaded in 2002. You cannot buy a brand new fully loaded Mustang V6 or GT for that type of money anymore. Ford is currently pricing the Mustang out of the affordability range for most people. The current Mustang V6's and GT's are overpriced.

You know I am shocked by the prices around D.C., especially Loudoun County, VA. I went to the dealer to look at a nice '05 GT that was torch red. It had 22k miles on it, and they wouldn't budge from 24,900. The new '07 GT Premiums on the lot started at 30,585. One at that price. The rest were 32-33,000. That is just a regular Mustang GT. The market is screwed up here. I make 42k a year, and am considered at or below the poverty level. In some places that is a decent amount for an entry level job, but for here?! I didn't see a GT500 on the lot, but for 26,500 I could have had a 2003 Cobra with 36k miles on it. Talk about high prices. And you have to pay 10% "personal property" tax calculated from the highest blue book value of your vehicle every year. This county is unconstitutional.

IMO SVT died when he left. Then Ford threw the casket in raging fire when they brought the Shelby name back :nonono:

Sure the man did great things, but the GT500 is SVT through and through, but we get to pay out the ass for it cause of the stupid name. Just really killed my hopes of ever owning a brand spankin new Cobra one day.

Its called inflation my friend, prices always go up. However not a helluva lot considering how much nicer the newer models are.

According to edmunds.com the base price for the V6 and GT are as follows

2007 Mustang V6 5 speed - $19,250

2007 Mustang GT 5 speed Deluxe - $25,695

These include power everything, keyless, ac, cd player, etc. Pretty much anything you could want imo. Id say at those are very competitive prices.

Yeah you can get a premium loaded up with other option that get up to 30K but if you want a cheaper one, order it.
