2008 GT500KR... another limited edition none of us can afford

I didnt read all the posts so if this has already been said sorry.

First the KR is going to be $100K+ car after ADM. I promise you this and would be damn near willing to put money on it. The Shelbys are great cars and extreamly fast for a stock car and I love ours to say the least. It was worth every penny IMO. The new KR is not and especially after the ADM on this car. For less money than the MSRP is on the KR I know you can mod the Shelby and itll kill the KR. As far as the looks go, the rims are ugly and I know a guy thats been making a hood identical to the KRs for about 3-4 months now and I'll be getting one of those soon. All in all the KR will be a car for the collectors because none or very few performance guys will buy a KR when they can buy a regular Shelby for half the price.

We got our Shelby for a good "deal" at the time and could still sell it now and make money off of it or at least break even on it. We've NEVER EVER paid over MSRP let alone MSRP for a car but this was something specail and we wanted to get one now. Really every one has a different amount of money they are willing to spend on a car, some wouldn't spend 10k on a car where others will cough up 250k+ on a Lambo or Ferrari. Its all in want a person wants to spend or thinks they need to spend. I know guys that said they would have spent 60-65k on the Shelby if that was its MSRP but just won't because its going to the dealer and I dont blame them I wouldn't/didn't either. All I know is Ive got to drive the Shelby for the past 5 monts now and its been a blast.

Yeah no doubt NOVA is just crazy I've lived here for 20+ years used to be much more rural sure there was growth and traffic but not to point it's reached now. Overpriced homes, prices for an appartment or townhouse that in most of the rest of the country could get a house. I won't even go into the traffic and rude ass "everyone out for themselves" attidude the area has come to have.

Saying the Shelby is a pig and it cant hang with a base C6 is BULL plain and simple. Every one seems to forget that an 03/04 Cobra is only 300lbs lighter than the Shelby which has around 100 more hp stock. Trust me it'll do more than hang against a C6 Vette too, itll rape a C6. Ive raced two now and neither could hang with the Shelby. It also rides 100X better than any Mustang Ive ever driven in and it'll pull like a SOB in any gear. Ive had the car up to 100MPH in 2nd gear the cars a beast. It also handles great to for being a "PIG".

Yes the reason the car is so expensive is because it has the Shelby name on it. That is also the reason there are so many haters of the car, because if it was a 2007 SVT Cobra every one would LOVE this car say how great it is. The fact is its not, some people don't like it because of the Shelby name and the others don't like it because they know that they can't get one/ afford one. Either way thats the reason so many hate on this car.

Like I posted before the KR is a waist for the money. It has nothing you can't buy and install for cheaper than what that car will sell for. The Shelby on the other hand is a bang for the buck no doubt about it, it responds to mods better, rides better, handles better, has a solid axle, and looks great too. Plus this car will hold its value better (if you got one for a good deal) you wont be seeing these cars drop to the 30s for a loooong time.

But the whole point is that you got to be one very rich person to be able to afford a brand new Shelby GT500 or a GT500KR.

For a KR with ADM you better have money coming out your a$$. For a Shelby at sticker you still need to have some money but Im sure 80-90% of the people on these boards could swing it especialy if you they were a new 03-04 Cobra owner.

Go to Dimension Ford......... oh wait we went there and they wanted 20k over sticker in Nov. and are still trying to get that now.

My friend has bought an 03 Cobra, 99 Lightning, and 01 Lightning from them all when they were brand new cars and has bought numerous DDs from Dimension too. He went in there to order a Shelby and they said sorry no deal. He was pissed to say the least and said he would never buy a car from them again. They have lost alot of customers from there greed. I think that is really going to come back and bite them in the ass. We went there too and offered a small amount over sticker and they turned us down too.

If you are willing to drive, Roberts Ford here in Alton IL just got in a blue gt500. Dont know how much they are asking but it might be worth calling. I can get the number if needed. I know they are trying to get rid of their gt's pretty bad, but didnt know about the gt500.

the shelby cars will not loose that much valve, I think they will go for near sticker price even when they are 5-6 years old.

look at the old buick GNX . they are going for more than original sticker now and are 20 years old. they NEVER dropped in price at all.

Just be patient. Marketing tells us we NEED to have the latest and greatest. I don't buy that. I have a nice used car and I am proud of it. It's not the fastest thing on the street, it's not the newest, but it's mine.

In 1999 somebody paid about $30,000 for the car I now have ($29,235 was MSRP.)

6 years, 1 owner and 36,000 miles later I bought it for $15,000.

Let's think about that for a minute... 36,000 miles and I get it for half price. Fine by me!

Sure the GT500s wont drop in price as fast as my NA Cobra did but you get the idea. Low milage 03/04 Cobras are selling for around $22,000 now (MSRP was $37545.) $15,000 drop in 3-4 years, not bad for a car that was the old "King of the Road."

The GT500s time will come. IMO the KRs are for people who want bragging rights. And as long as people will pay top dollar for them they will keep being marked up accordingly. The KRs wont drop much at all but I think the GT500s will be around $30,000 in a few years. After the new Bullitts, Boss and whatever else limited edition with a big motor that Ford brings out next...

Let's remember that it IS a Mustang gentlemen. There is a solid history of plummeting resale value.

How could it lose half its msrp in 3 years when 03/04s havent even lost half at four years. That just doesn't make since when the GT500s are STILL pulling big money now, when at this time for the 03s they could be had at sticker.

The cars you listed are all cars that are going to be very hard to come by, which intern will not hurt the price of the GT500. The KR your going to pay out the ass for, the FR500 is race car and $$$, and the GT-H you have to find one at an auction. Those are all cars that are low run expensive cars. The only car that, at this point, is any Competition for the GT500 is the Shelby GT and that isn't too much competition because I know 10X more people who are wating on a GT500 than a Shelby-GT and the GT-H has been out and hasn't really affected the market on the GT500.

The new trims MIGHT hurt the the value of the GT500 but they'll have to make 400ish hp and be in the mid-high $30K range to compete with the GT500. Whats selling this car is the performance and the Shelby name. If its only 350-375hp and costs $40k people aren't going to buy that when they can buy a Shelby making 500hp for 45k (when they hit sticker) and numerous people have said this. Also at this point I would say 25-50% of the people buying this car RIGHT NOW are buying it for the Shelby name. Most of the performance guys can't afford to or more so won't pay for the crazy ADMs.

Low mileage Cobras go for mid to high 20s Ive even seen some Cobras with 7k miles sell for 28-30k. My friend sold his 03 with 33,XXX miles on it for for 24k. Look at it this way too, I was looking at 03/04 Cobras last year, before the 07 Shelbys were out, and Cobras were going for 28k on average. The GT500 has lowered the market on the 03/04 Cobras because they're not the baddest mustang out now. The same thing will happen when a 550-600hp Mustang comes out the value of the Shelby will drop the only question is how much will it drop.

I'm old enough to remember when no one made a car that was fast. Now even the family car has 250 HP and can do 0 - 60 in under 6 seconds.

Remember the '82 "boss" mustang GT that turned a blistering 0-60 in 7.1 sec?

Or how about the mustang II of the 70's?

I have a '05 which is the finest handling mustang I have ever owned and it flat out gets it.

To think we can buy genuine FORD (not dodge) Shelbys with 500+ HP in 2007 is just unreal. We are by far living in the best of times.

We'll be cussing everyone in 10 years when all we have to choose from is electric or corn fueled cars getting 60 mpg. And the Mustang if still around won't be cranking 500 + HP.

These are truly the best of times guys, now go do some burnouts.

The Ford GT is gone and all of them are sitting in some retired mans showroom. That means the Shelby is the only Ford product out there to compete with the ZO6 and the new 600HP Viper thats supposed to be coming out. Caroll Shelby's whole claim to fame was big engine, little car i.e. 65+ 427 Cobra.
