We've decided to move to an Accell "ready to run" 52000 series distributor and a one wire 140 amp powermaster alternator in my son's '70 coupe. I also picked up a new (correct) coil. The distributor has the appropriate steel gear for the '89 5.0 HO motor we're using with the roller cam.

Can anyone provide a wiring diagram that shows how I should hook everything up? All the stock wiring under the hood was for a 6 banger/3 spd. w/ old style alternator, ballast resistor, voltage regulator, etc...

I assume the old voltage regulator goes away, I know I need to eliminate the ballast resistor. I'm not sure what to do with some of the old wiring under the hood and eventually I may build a new harness. For now I want to get it running with what is there if possible. The '89 starter only has 1 lug on it so I assume we'll still have the fender mounted remote solenoid.

I also need to figure out what to do with the old wiring that went to the manual trans. We have moved to a T5.

Thanks in advance, Tom

I can't help with the distributor or alternator. I've only put 3G alternators in, now the 1 wire setups.

As far as the starter, ya, it just goes in like the original did off the starter motor relay. The T5 should have some terminals on it which close a circuit in it for the reverse lights. I think the old manual shifters wired off a switch in the shifter mechanism instead off off the trans. Since you have no neutral safety to worry about, you should be able to wire the reverse lights from the old shifter to the terminals on the T5.

So at this point I have it wired as follows - am I missing anything?:

Solenoid (rear large terminal) - hooked to starter terminal

Solenoid (front large terminal) - 3 wires including:
1) a connection for Battery (+)
2) Alternator charge wire (1 wire Powermaster alternator)
3) black wire from original wiring harness (I assume going to fuse block)

Solenoid also has 2 smaller terminals - which are hooked up as follows:
1) brown stock wiring harness wire on small post towards front
2) red/blue stock wiring harness wire on small post towards rear

The Accell distributor is wired as directed (3 wires)
Red - took this from where the red wire was attached to the ballast resister coming out of firewall (ballast resister eliminated per instructions).
Black (engine ground)
Brown to (-) side of coil

I disconnected and removed all the wiring for the external voltage regulator, which leaves an original light blue connector with 2 wires on it connected to nothing. These wires are:
1) black
2) green

Thats how 1 wires are supposed to hook up as far as I know.

As far as the I and S terminals on the starter motor relay, if you have them reversed, the car will crank in the run possition, no major harm there as long as the oil pump is primed. Just switch the terminals if it is wrong but I think you got it right.

You no longer need the voltage regulator hooked up but I'm not sure about what those other wires are. Post a pic ?
