How bad is freqent high rpms?

mine seems to pull until about 5800+, then it feels like performance falls off. never had it on a dyno though.... i like to shift at 5500-5800, but i usually go by feel and sound, not the tach. i think i get near 6000 every now and then. i've also heard the tach is notoriously bad.... just wondering if i should change how i drive if i want it to last any amount of time...

hmm.. maybe your tach is innacurate. My car feels like it really just makes noise past 5400 and so i shift

just to clear things up a bit... i dont think i've ever hit 6000, but maybe come close a couple times. i do shift around 5500 usually when driving hard. seems to pull good until there. never hit the rev limiter either... i also dont drive like that all the time. but when i go out for a cruise, i drive it pretty hard.... maybe a couple times a week

Something to remember is that forces can increase with the square of crankshaft speed.

True statement! I've knocked it off the limiter a couple times, but i make a conscious effort not to go past 5k. Right now i have the tweecer rev limiter set a 4800. I know for a fact (dyno chart) that my car makes plenty of power up to 5400-5600 but there is just no need to take it there. You're HP may still be increasing but at a lower rate. All the fun in a 5.0 is had below 5k. Plus you are running a stock intake by the looks of it...and i bet that thing cuts out at about 4500 haha.

hahaha, I can help but laugh but It would seem taking anycar near its redline would decrease its engine life. They aint made to always go up to to redline all the time, sometimes yeah but not everyday, and certainly not 20 times a day. :rlaugh: I would say that go's for any gas engine ever built (dont know about lawnmowers thow)

When I start my car I have the pedal to the floor to help it gain oil pressure and hold it on the rev limiter, clears out the carbon.

Be nice to the thing, looks like you've got a nice car. I mean acouple times when you drive it is one thing, but theres no need to rev it that high even though Iam sure the tach is off. You'll end up floating the valves thats for sure and like everyone else said the car isnt making power that high so why push it?
