what should I pay for this vert??

guy called about some things I had for sale and we got to talking cars, and his mustang is for sale. 88 GT vert, white with white top and grey interior, 5 speed car. 306 with TFS heads and track heat upper and lower, 4.10's, and 4 point cage with NOS 100 HP shot, centerline wheels. He said he car has 70K orig miles probably less since the 4.10's are in the rear. I asked what he wanted for it and he told me to come look and make him an offer, any ideas??

Meh ... I'm gonna say $3,500. Being that it's modded like that, and has a 306 (which tells me he already blew the motor once and needed a rebuild), it's been ragged out for a lot of those 70k miles. If it was 70k and totally original, it'd be worth a lot more - THEN maybe $5,000 or so - but as it sounds, I wouldn't give more than $3,500 for it, myself.

just because it was rebuilt doesnt mean he blew the motor...

Dude, think about it. You don't just rebuild a motor on a whim. It needed it for a reason, and a 302 that's properly cared for and not beaten to death will rarely (if ever) fail within 70k miles. Especially when you consider all the other mods put into the car, I'm sorry, you can NOT tell me that car hasn't been beaten on quite a bit. People don't go through that much time/expense to set their car up for drags just to look at it - they're made to RUN. And with a rebuilt motor, is HAS been run ... a LOT.

uhh...what 5.0 stang aint beat on..think about it....ive seen mustangs go for 300K plus and still run strong...some people have more money then sense and when building a motor they would rather go all out the first time...rebuilt bottem end ya know...just so they know its stout...go find a 5.0 with under 20k on....i bet ya anything that is has been tooken to redline more then once...and beat on every now and then...

Id say $5000 is the max Id give for a fox body in mint +mildly modded or stock condition. It sounds like this car is worth that. As for the motor being rebuilt..not a big deal as long as everything is good. Make sure the trans is still good. Make sure rear end is good if so Id say $5000 is a fair deal...the guy saying $3500 thats sounds like a low ball offer at least in my area for a car that sounds as nice as this one.

my 302 was perfectly fine when i switched it out for a dart block 363. maybe his was just burning a lot of oil?

Sounds good. I would rebuild the engine as well if I were doing an h/c/i regardless of mileage.

well...67K miles all the mentioned stuff above, needs a nw header panel the ront spoiler is split, brakes all the way around and paint...asking $5k

Not worth it if it needs paint. Is it really that bad or can it still be buffed/rubbed out?

If it needs paint I say 4k max more like $3500 because for 5K you could find a decent 94~95GT instead of a fox
