I was cleaning my engine the other day and my stock air intake looks like crap. It's all faded out and no matter what I did it still looked like crap. I do have a K&N drop in but would it be worth it just to get the FIPK. I can get it for $180.

I just put in a MAC tonight that I got off ebay. IMO, its worth it to do at least the filter. Saves money on buying more of them. The main reason to buy a CAI or RAI is for the look, which is why I got the MAC. Another one to look at is the JLT. The main differences are what the tubes are made of as the filters are much the same as the K&N.

Is it worth it? Depends on what your goal is.

I have been running my car with the drop in K&N with the air silencer removed for the past 2 years. It works great and I have had no problems. It’s just that the stock intake tube is starting to show its age and looks bad. I will be getting cams next year. Would a CAI make any difference over what I have now?

No, CAI's aren't worth it. You will not gain more than 2whp anyway. Might as well buy the drop in for $50.

Yeah my stock tube began looking like crap eventually and just wouldn't clean up worth a damn. I just browsed ebay for a while and found an intake for sale that isn't one of the chrome ones. Think I paid around $35-40 after shipping for it so it wasn't too bad of a deal. Helped the looks of the engine quite a bit and even helps a bit when I pull the headlight at the track.

I say go ahead, either you buy it now or later you will eventually get one. Until you become F/I then it's kinda useless lol.

What do you mean until you become F/I...F?I has it's own set up which will mean the CAI will be useless as well. Save for the cams, and maybe some head work. I'd say if you were spending that much for cams, see if you can hold out a bit longer or look around for used blower kits. Would be much more fun than the cams, but w/o the lope!

I think he is saying once you become F/I that then the CAI will be useless, at least thats the way I read what he wrote. I could be wrong.

I thought most people say stay away from used blower kits. I can get cams installed for $900 + $550 for the cams and then $275 for a dyno tune = $1725. A Blower kit from MPH is around $3,900 + then install, talking around $5,000 for everything. So cams would be about $3,275 less then a blower.
