Budget HCI. need some direction please

Many times a budget combo is focused around a S M A L L budget
There is no money for a custom tune

You can go so far as to say ... the cam was N O T selected with a focus
on making power ... but ... with a focus on it playing nice with the pcm

Here is something to think about ;)

Ever see how a few iron head combos make a good bit more power
than all the rest

Its in the details
and
Some of the time: ...
A L L of those details have not been revealed :rlaugh:

3) A lot of these budget combo owners have but one car and it is their
Stang that is the daily driver. You gotta place the dd thing as a priority
over a Stang that might make more power but it could cause you grief
on a daily basis with a more aggressive combo

Just a few things to think about

Grady

As Grady stated, it is very important to consider a professional tune with these combos, especially when cams come into play. Because spending half a grand on a tune is out of the question for my budget, Im planning to retain the stock HO cam for my setup (perhaps degreeing it), and then do a custom grind cam and tune at a later date when I have a chance to save up more. My "game plan" is a set of explorer gt40p's with trickflow valve springs and perhaps 1.7's and an explorer upper and lower intake. That gives me a good start, and should make for a quality improvement over stock. When I have more cash to expend, and more desire for power, I can have the heads and intake ported and get a custom grind cam to tie the combo togther and help it fit my needs (remember, My car is also a semi-daily driver, so street manners and "decent" economy is a must) Then wrap it all up with a good tune. Should yield around 300 rwhp, a nice solid street setup IMO ;)

Another great combo that I was considering is the thumper tmoss combo. Tom Moss ports your stock lower intake manifold (which is extremely restrictive from the factory) And Mike Shultz of Thumper performance ports your stock E7s to flow like gt40p's. Thumpers heads use the stock valve size, this leads to increased velocity which results in great low end torque. Thumper's heads and Tmoss's intake compliment eachother great, and a cam could be added to bring even more power out. Shipping put a damper on this combo for me.

Whatever you decide to go with, good luck and make sure to not cheap out on the things that matter the most :nice: this is a budget combo, but sometimes you have to splurge a little.

fiveoho - It isn't a problem:) I enjoy helping people if I can or know something about it. The forum tends to be self-correcting, so if I or someone else post something a bit off, usually someone can come in and provide a better viewpoint:nice: Grady is very good at this...and I agree with all he has said in the thread.

Having another daily driver is nice:nice:

Hey David

Its A L W A Y S easier to follow somebody else's thunder :rlaugh:

I've not given much thought about that self correcting thing :nice:
but
I see how it makes a lot of sense now that you mention it :D

Another thing I see that is of Paramount importance is ...

I like how the members here strive to keep info accurate but go to an
effort to not flame others when they see a slip up here and there

Nobody wants to come on here and be made to look stupid :nono:

And by the fact you see a fresh crop NOOBS on here over and over ...

I guess we have done a pretty good job of making peeps feel they
can come here and learn about their Stangs without fear of feeling
intimidated by other members.

As we have said before ;)

Its the peeps that make this place special :hail2: :Word:
