I'm just back from the 1/4 mile track, with new best results and a dramatic before and after of an offroad H pipe on an otherwise stock car.

The car:
97 GT manual. Bone stock minus the BBK Offroad H pipe. Paper filter, stock gears, factory mufflers.

Here's the best run from tonight:
60' 2.252
1/8 9.340 @ 76.56mph
1/4 14.463 @ 96.02mph

In April 06, I ran the car as well. It was stone stock then.
60' 2.241
1/8 9.444 @ 74.92mph
1/4 14.675 @ 93.98mph

This is a real GAIN of .212 seconds and 2.04 mph. So 10-15hp at the wheels.

Incase you are wondering: Temperatures were similar. 60s in April 06 and 50s tonight. Both times, I had the following setup:
Mobile 1 motor oil
max pressure in the front tires
removed anything not bolted down (floor mates, spare tire, junk)
power shifted (yikes)

I think the car had more in it. I ran 7 times in total (all back to back), the first 4 runs, I left the subwoofer, floor mats and spare in the car. I played with shift points and tried to figure out how to launch well. Then, I took out that junk, and the next run was my best. The last 2 runs, I apparently forgot how to find 3rd. I think I was just syching myself out about hurting the shift forks and made some half assed shifts. At that point, I was low on gas and figured I should go home.

The best 60' time was a 2.218, which might have gotten me a 14.40 had I not missed 3rd gear. I had new Yoko's on the car, but they didn't have the traction I was hoping for. I have some bald good years which worked VERY well on the 4cyl (got a 2.006 without tire spin), but that car has a few tweaks to the suspension to help it hook
(no front sway bar, soft front springs/struts, stiff rear springs). If I'm out again, I'll put on these bald Goodyears and see if that helps.

K&N filter and a tune and you should be knocking down 9 flat , gears 3.73s and tires will put you in high 8s , prostars and ET streets along with gears should get you a solid 8.6 in the 1/8th

Your numbers seem a bit hopeful to me. I figured the K&N is good for about 4-5hp max. I kinda wonder if the previous owner put in a tune or chip, because it tends to ping on 87 depending on the weather. The 97 is just my Daily Driver and my intention is to have something fun to drive that still has a quality factory feel to it, and of course it needs to be reliable and get descent milage. I drive about 500 miles a week. The H pipe just sounds good and happen to add 10-15hp. hehe.

If I want to go fast at the track, I've got the 4cyl. With mostly factory parts, I've already run an 8.77 in the 1/8th, and that was in the heat of summer. I'm running better gas now, along with more boost and timing. I expect high 12s/low 13s as it is now, and could be asking to get kicked out of the track if I added a shot of nitrous. :D

well I have personally seen non-PI 4.6 with 160K miles on it pull a 8.53 at a crappy track on ET streets with the mods I mentioned and set of underdrives ......so I dont think 8.6s is that far of a stretch for you man .....pull the ECM to see if it has a chip in it , if its been flashed thats another story though ...
