removing rear brake pads

Does anyone know how to compress the calipers on the rear brakes in order to install new brake pads? The parking brake is off, but is still seems to be interfering. I've tried using clamps but the pistons wont compress far enough to get the job done. The car is an '05 v6.

You need to twist (screw) the pistons as you push. There is a tool for that but some people have done it with a stout pair of needle nose pliars. I bought the tool when I did mine a few weeks ago.

thanks a lot for the quick reply. I'll give it a try with the needle nose first, although the tool looks like it would be worth having around. Does it matter which direction you twist it and how much force/difficulty is needed to twist and compress the pistion?

I got my tool from Harbor Freight for about $20 on sale. Comes with adapters for different brands of cars.

Edit: Yes twist to the right.. you are screwing the piston in.

Very talented, I never had the nerve to attempt build a guitar from scratch. Mine is an all RosedWood telecaster from the 80's. View attachment 349173
