RWHP Question about 347

Hello

I am new to this forum, anyway, I have a Tbucket with a 302 ford and a C4. It put down about 160 RWHP, and I am not sure what all is done to the motor, probably not much, but it does have a Holley 600 and an edelbrock intake. The guy with the dyno laughed at me when he was done. Anyway, I have a 1988 5.0 GT convertible in storage. To make a long story short, I'm going put a freshly built 347 from the convertible into the Tbucket. The Tbucket weights in at 1740 with iron heads, so its lots lighter than the 5.0. I am trying to figure out what RWHP horsepower the 347 should put down with a 4.10 gear set and a C4 with a reasonably tight converter...Mods on the 347 are as follow..

1986 H.O Block with steel girdle with 3.4 stroke iron crankshaft, scat I beam rods

KB 246 Pisons - 10.5 Compression with 64 CC chamber

Aluminum Pro Comp Heads 210 heads flowing at 265/176 @ 500 with 2.02/1.60 valves, 1.7 Roller Rockers

Comp Xtreme Energy Roller Cam 224/230 @ .50 or - 276/282 advertised LSA 112 544/544 lift

Anybody have any ideas what RWHP that should put out ? I has one person tell me it will put out 200 on a superflow dyno, but I am hoping for more...
 

Uhh, YES. A properly built 347 will put out between 375-450 AT THE WHEELS. Now, take into account that he has a C-4 and MONSTER tires (what T-Bucket doesn't have those) and that may drop him down to the 350 range at the tires.

My brother's stroked 337 AFR 185, Tremec 3550 put down 390 rwhp and 362 rwt and runs 11.60's @ 118 all day long. It's not hard to fathom that a PROPERLY BUILT 347 couldn't exceed that.

Thanks again for responses. Actually I bought a Parker Funnelweb and plan to use a Proform body of some sort with a either a double pumper set up or a 931cfm Vac Secondary carb. The TBucket does in fact have big tires, they are Mickey Thompson ETs that are 33x16.5, so it makes my gears seem a little higher than a 4.10. I know the 347 in the 88 GT convertible felt almost weightless (never raced it), but it has at the moment has a ported Professional Products intake with a 75mm TB with long tubes, but the car weights about 3200 lbs, or something like that. That car has a 3.73 with a T5 Tranny, and it wouldnt pass emissions so I had to park it. (to much overlap on the cam) Eventually I may put a larger windsor 393 in it, but for now its being sent out to pasture. I am actually considering building a 393 or 427 windsor with a solid roller cam for the T bucket, but at first I am going to start with the 347. The person who said my 347 should put out 200 was the operator at the machine shop, who actually built the shortblock on the 347, believe it not. Originally I ran GT40P heads, and wasn't totally thrilled, so I bought the aluminum heads and had them gone through and assembled professionally, ect. I think the guy was basing that on the fact that my 302 put out around 158 hp with loose rocker bolts.
 
What are the valve events on that cam? I'm not sure if that combo is well-matched. The heads will limit flow if you're trying to rev into the stratosphere like the carb and intake are meant for. I'd really like one of the pros' opinions on your combo. I think with the parts you mentioned that you can make 400+ rwhp with the right cam. I don't know if that's the right one for you, though. It seems a little small on the lift, and a little wide on the LSA.

Thanks for the reply. I originally built this engine for fuel injection, so I went with a comp cams extreme energy grind which was XE276Hr-12, or comps number to look up the card on their sight is 35-328-8.

IF there is a better cam for my combo I will probably get it, I just dont know carbed fords that well..

Events are as follows


Gross Valve lift is 544, thats with a 1.7 rocker, in which this cam is made for

Valve timing at .006 is as follows

Intake open at 30, intake close at 66
Exhaust open at 77 exhaust close 25

Card states specs for cam installed at 108 Intake CL

Duration at .05 Intake 224, Exhaust 230

lobe lift is .32 on both I and E

And finally the LSA on this one 112

What do you think ??
 
I'm in over my head in terms of reccommending a cam to you. I don't follow cams all that closely and I'm just starting to learn about valve event timing on different combos. I just looked at your combo and noted the high rpm intake/carb, the middlish heads, and a cam that looks like it may not have enough lift or overlap. I also wanted to know the .050" events to get an idea at what RPM that cam will make the most power.

I'm more used to comparing events at .050" and that'll also give me an idea of how aggressive the ramp is on the cam. I'll see if I can get ahold of someone to answer your question. Hopefully, a pro will take a look at this one as it'd be of great value to you, and I'd really like to see.
