Pick me another cam!!!

Alright well I am changing my combo... again and now I am saving for a stroker kit. I am trading my nitrous kit for a holley systemax 2 intake along with my patriot performance heads with a 331.

My old combo was gonna be a stock bottomend, same heads, lunati 51014(which I already have, probably trade it off) and the explorer intake.

I should make a bit more power with a more aggressive cam. How bout a TFS stage 2 or similar??

BTW I still haven't decided whether or not I am going 331 maybe 347, maybe stay 302 with new pistons.

How are the mustang depot strokers from ebay? I was thinking a simple cheap stroker with hyper pistons(no poweradders will be going on here) for 599 is a damn good deal. The quality is what worries me, and money is reaaallllly tight right now.

imo...keep the parts you have and put them on. then grab anonther motor and build the bottom end how you want it..then later on pull you engine swap over the parts you need...those are last things i would buy from ebay. save your money and get the good stuff!

If money is really tight, why touch the car at all? If you have parts, use them, if you don't why waste money when your struggling as it is?

Maybe as I get older I get wiser, but I am the kind of person if I don't have the funds, I don't purchase the fun stuff!

I'm gettin that way too lol. I agree, just use what you have now and wait until you can afford to build something better. Later when you make more money you'll be able to afford a bigger and better engine. If you piece some small stroker together now it'll have been a waste of money when you go changin it a couple years from now. I'm speaking from experience here, I've had 4 different sets of heads on my car now because I didn't wait until I could afford what I really wanted and in the long run I spent more money.

Well I am not going into debt or anything. I need to notch my pistons either way so I guess I'll pull the pistons and have them notched or fly cut and put new rings on them. Then the patriot heads and the holley intake and I guess keep the cam I have. I have no need for nitrous anymore, my car will be fast enough.

I don't know if I will or not but from everyones advice with a 2.02 intake valve it will hit. I guess I should slap them on and test it out. The next time I have off for about 3 days consecutively I guess I'll try it on for size.

How bout since you already have a blower cam make the intake trade and save alittle more for a S-Trim or P1 procharger? Just a thought

My mistake, I skipped over the 185cc part. I had my eye set on something smaller...

The radial of the valve very well might hit.

you can notch the pistons .100 with no problem at all they are almost .300 thick then you could run a tfs stage 2 cam with no clearance problems

i wouldnt boost it with notched pistons though

I just sold a perfect shortblock (out of the vert) with 80k on it for $200 with everything new except the timing cover and the rotating assy..

But you definatley can use those heads with a stockbottom end, dont go off of other peoples opinions solely. try it out and see for yourself, if it works, go rip up the road for a few months while the new unit is being built, its way better that way imo..

yep I'm going to put the heads on and test it out in a few weeks. I found a Yamaha FZR600(it COULD be a 1000, the guy didn't know anything about it and I didn't eve take a very good look at it) for 400 bucks today at the JY needing a new brake reservoir. I am going to pick it up. My dad has a BMW bike, my lil bro got a nighthawk for Christmas so its my turn for a bike. We are going to paint it up ourselves and streetfighter it. It already has a Vance and Hines muffler and a header.

You should sell that cam and get a custom one. With a custom one it could be tailored to your engine so you wont have ptv clearance problems, also the patriot heads exhaust flow is kind of crappy so you'd be better off with a cam that favors the exhaust side.
