UPS Man brought a tear to my eye today...

If DSS touched that block you better have your machine shop check everything.

My friend has had 2 dss 347's go out on him within 1000 miles or less. this summer.

I am going to change it. My buddy has his own sign shop and has gotten into doing full vinyl cars. This is what he made for me and what the car will look like hopefully by the end of summer. It won't be tubbed though, maybe next year. I'll see if I can afford the vinyl this year or not after this drivetrain build.

lol what front end is that supposed to be like an xr4ti:shrug:

imo i'd do something with the car as far as asthetics go but hey, it's your ride isn't it

I calipered and micrometered every hole in that block last night for trueness. I don't take any chances either. Everything looks good. My guess is that your buddies wasn't a Dart though. DSS doesn't do much to these blocks thank goodness but they do clearance them for 408's so they are just drop in. I wont let anyone build my bottom end. I do it myself, clearances, plastigauge, ringgaps, everything. My buddy is a mechanic and he is the only one that touches my motors other than me. That way if something goes wrong I can only blame myself. The Mod motor we built last year has held up awesome in my 96.

Thats good. You are correct, his was not a dart block. He bought a DSS 347 short block. The first one failed during the 500 mile break in period, a rod started knocking. He had not been hard on it, just normal driving.

The second replacement 347 had a catostrophic failure while cruising at 50 mph. It had just under 1000 miles on it. It had several rods start knocking etc.

THey still have that mtr and have not done anything yet,
I believe that mtr went out in September.
I am very disappointed in there customer service to my buddy.

That sucks. I hate when people get screwed over. That's honestly why I try to do as much as possible myself. How do you know who to trust. One guy will have great luck with a company and the next guy gets screwed. Thanks for the headsup though. Hopefully I don't have any issues.
