Anyone seen the new maaco commercial, guy hopes in a 87-93 beat up lx hatch, leaves, then slides back to parking space all painted red, cool to see a fox in a commercial, but not liking how the commercial was a cheap $275 paint job though

I deal with a couple of Maaco collision shops. The one that is really close to me actually does really nice work...(for the money) They have about 5 different paint jobs. They range from 299 all the way up to 999 and everything in between. They offer different types of paint and different warranties on shine and finish.

The only thing is they do leave you with as much paint on your inner fender wells as on the car. And they do not remove any trim, moldings, lights, tires and wheels. For the price...they can't, but you get guys doing quick tape jobs and a lot of trim and weatherstripping gets paint on it too.

if you take the pannels and stuff off of your car and take allot of time masking off things and removing things and even getting it trailered there becasue its so far disassembled though, cant you get away with a maaco? thats always what i thought. seems good for someone short on cash but has time to do that work and a dd.

I had a friend do what ppl above have mentioned. He dissasembled and prepped his truck, had them spray it and it still looks great 3 years later. It's become a DD since then and i've been impressed with it. But I think like with any body shop it's hit and miss. Depends on the painter, how his day is going, position of the moon, etc.

This is my 94 Lightning with the Maaco paint job it received after some cast iron SOB keyed both sides. :Damnit:

I had just waxed it with Eagle One Nanowax before the pic. That stuff is awesome. This was taken in 04. Aside from a couple of daily driving chips it still looks this good as it sits in storage. Keep them waxed and invest in a decent cover (California Car Covers has some really nice ones) and even a cheap paint job will last.

You get what you pay for and unfortunately that gives Maaco a bad name because people can't seem to understand that $275 is not going to get you a perfect paint job that's going to last you for the rest of your life. I've seen $1k+ jobs from them that look show car quality and i've seen jobs that literally flaked off from a car wash power washer.

Ok there are a few reasons that Maaco paint jobs are not that expensive, 1 they dont do more prep than they have to. 2. In the 275 paint job they are using economy line paints. 3. A lot of the reason that they are more inexpensive is because Maaco is a franchise and they have negotiated with paint companies to get special pricing that is Maaco specific. As long as you pick a base/ clear paint job you will have a long lasting finish.

I agree with all of the above. I have two friend's who've had their cars painted at MAACO and one has been featured in 3 magazines. The other one is also show quality and it wouldn't surprise me if it were featured at some point. I also know of another car (a '74 Chevy Vega) where the owner did all of the bodywork and took it to MAACO. The job they did turned out to win him a lot of "Best Paint" awards at many major shows. It's all in the prep work and the quality of the paint. If you choose their cheapest paint job, it'll chip and flake. If you choose their most expensive job, it'll look awesome.

Regardless of who you hire, you'll save a lot of money if you remove all of the emblems, decals, hardware (antennas, door handles, lights, weatherstripping, etc...) This work is something that anyone can do and it leaves the professional to do what he's really trained to do - work on the actual bodywork and paint.

omg!!!

i want to see this commercial soooo badly! my Dad saw it and said that it looked just like my car. anyone have a link to it? ive searched and searched, but, unfortunately havent seen it yet....

Yeah, I've seen that commercial a few times. Thought it was kind of cool when I first saw it. Looks like my LX aside from the wheels. I always get a kick out of seeing a fox on t.v.

Anyone else notice the blue LX in the new "Marley and me" movie trailer? It drives by when Owen Wilson is holding onto the dog, hanging ou the car window.
