Ever Have Your Best... And Worst Day At The Track?

So I took the stang to the track for opening weekend to see if my little winter mods improved my 1/4 time and to scratch my need for speed...Mostly to scratch my need for speed.

It started out a great day my second pass was my best time to date at 12.998 at 108. I can finally say my stang gets in to the 12's! And yes I know how close I was to not being able to say that, but I consider that to be VERY good for ALL motor on street tires (not DR's).

But of course all good things must come to an end. My next pass I was heating up my tires before I stage and as I was doing a burn out, my RPM's started to fall at a consistent smooth rate (as if I had too much brake & not enough gas) and the car stalled. not sure what happened I just thought the car was being retarted, I start it back up, put it in second gear, give it gas, and dropped the clutch like it was going out style, and than BANG!

Yup snapped an axel and it took a LOT of force to get that little piece out of my Eaton LSD which in the end couldnt be saved. We figured when my car stalled the first time my axel was seized inside the LSD and then I finished it by trying to do a burnout again. But I don't care it could of been something much more serious. But best of all I DIPPED IN TO THE 12's :D

oh ya 31 spline axels and a detroit truetrac locker in the mail :nice:

sorry to hear that. What were the numbers on the entire run?, and were those street tires, or drag radials.

Sounds to me that it was "drag radials", and not a "street tire". but if so, thats amazing and the first Ive heard of this.

is this a common thing what type of power do you put down? im going to the track over the weekend for the first time and y did u start in 2nd gear instead of first?

Not too common... the 8.8 is a very stout axle, and the stock 28 spine shafts will take some heavy abuse, but if you push too hard you will break something.

Starting a burnout in second gear allows the tires to spin faster and will get them hotter, quicker... this is when running a drag radial or slick, not needed on a street tire...:nice:

Keep that thing in your garage, or wherever man... its a trophy, lol. You really mangled that thing good.

R/T .608
60' 1.971
330 5.551
1/8 8.451
MPH 85.01
1000 10.929
1/4 12.998
MPH 108.97

I was running the cheapest 315's I could find some Sumitomo HTR Z
d2de8f1d.webp

They actually stuck well.
The pass before this one I had a R/T of .400 at 13.31 with the same speed, we were shooting for 12.80 and I think I could of got that.

Mustang_GT_02:
I've never dynoed the car so not really sure what # I have. I dont really think I have "too much power" I think it was a case of "too much traction" which is amazing on street tires!

my buddy got it on video, i'll see if I can get it

GO PACKERS!

What mods do you have done if you dont mind sharing?

Those are good times for an N/A GT, thats my goal actually... 12.9 or better.

And I SERIOUSLY commend you for getting those Sumitumo's to hook!!!

that is simply outstanding, the track must have been prepped well, and def. a driver behind the wheel!:flag:

btw, what was the DA during your runs? thats an awesome MPH.

Definately some impressive times! And yeah, you should have another 1/10th or two left in it!

if you busted s**t on sumi's you must have had a weak or defective part. although, 12's are fantastic and I long for such times....still, thats still nothing compared to the damage that was done.

+1 It's hard to believe that those tires gripped enough to snap an axle! Not saying it didn't happen, just hard to believe.

What are your mods?

Great times for a n/a car

I wish I could take credit for making the car capable of making these times, but the previous owner did. In the 9 months that i've owned the car I:
changed out from 3.73's to 4.10
MSD ignition
Autometer tach
electric cutouts
been threw 3 sets of tires already (including a set of MT's DR's)

I got the car from a dealership so I dont know exactly what has been done, but its a lot:
every single bolt on
lower & upper control arms
complete exhaust
42lb injectors & lighting MAF
cams (not sure what brand or how aggressive)
tri-ax short throw
aluminum driveshaft
UDP
solid motor mounts
steeda coils

sorry for not being much help.
changing out the 3.73s to 4.10s made a BIG diffrence, those cams dont wake the car up until 3000+ on the tach. I think there blower cams but dont quote me.

And yes any day at the track is better than a day at work. :nice:

Got the video from my buddy
check it out!

Does anybody else here go to Renegade?

wow, I've been out of the game for a while...

that is an AMAZING E/T for a lightly modded 4.6 on street tires (at least in my opinion.)

the car is cammed, but still, 12 second e/t's on street tires!!

wow, congrats. broken parts just mean an excuse to upgrade.

good to see that the 4.6 community is still kicking ass.

EDIT: PLEASE put that thing on some slicks (once you've got that rear shored up) or at least D/Rs so we can see what a >1.8 60ft can produce (and make sure you've got a low density altitude while you're at it!)
