I have a 93 5.0 LX. I would like to upgrade to an electric water pump. If I did this, would I need to then get an electric fan? Also, I plan on removing the smog pump, since I have no cats. Will this negatively affect the engines idle or drive-ability??? Please help!

Yes you would need an E-fan and a 3G 130A alt upgrade

Yeah you'll need an electric fan, theres no place to mount a clutch fan on a elec pump. Even if you could, you wouldnt want a fancy high tech pump and a stone age cooling fan creating drag would you? You'll have to step up to a 3G alternator if you haven't done so already.

Get rid of all that smog stuff if you dont have cats, and run a short belt.

I would do some home work on this before jumping into it. I myself wouldn't do one the small gain maybe 8hp over a mechanical pump but I would do a electric fan which will net a gain. I'm not going to knock the electric pump either.

Yes you will have to swap to a electric fan and upgrade to a 3G alt and upgrade the power wire. You want a pump rated for continuous duty for street applications since many are rated for the 1/4 mile and other types of racing. Maziere make a very nice pump and has one that has provisions for heat and stock hoses. you also should be running the pump through a controller to control flow you don't want the coolant to get stangnant or it will get hot spots or flow to much or it will take to long to warm up. I would use a dcc controller.

you don't have to do anything to ecu when pulling the smog pump, when you pull the pipe out from the heads use these to plugs up the holes

If the car is a DD, i wouldn't do it.


If the car is a toy or weekend car that sees 3000-5000 miles a year...then i would do one...which I am actually.

That's the one I was thinking of that had the idler pulley and heater fittings option. nice pump but $$ would have to search the net for a better price though.

Sweet. I already upgraded to the 200 amp alternator, but I left the stock power wires on. Is that a big deal? Ive been running the car like this for a year and have had not problems. I really want an electric pump. What the heck is a controller? How hard is it to wire the pump? Is it constantly flowing, or does it change as the engine gets hot? Im new to the electric pump world...
