Engine build gone wrong! What combo due I need?

I see that you, too, have the Typhoon intake manifold. I have one as well. I love it - but I don't think a whole lot of people here like it, or even thing that it increases power. Definitely a safe bet if you're running the nitro. If you add cam's, the typhoon is supposed to REALLY wake up in the high RPM's and add some notable power.

If you tell us what you're looking for i'm sure we can find something that'll suit your build. That cam is barely a stage 1 N/A, 2 less intake and exhaust and 1 degree broader LSA than a stage 1 comp cam (262ah) - don't waste your time there. I'd say either get PI cams while you recoup - or get stage II CMS's which for sure wont PTV.

agreed! :SNSign:

Yeah I got a set of stockers with 35k for 75 bucks. I'am going to finish build with that and when I get back from the beach I'am going to find the right cam and sell the ******278's, also the Comp adj. cam gears. If the stage II CMS cams are the cams I need, then I will buy them. I will buy the tool to hold the chains on at the crank and chage the cams with the motor in the car. Thanks agian for all the help.

Yeah, I like the typhoon intake, I missed 4th gear at the track one noght and had a nitrous backfire and blow the hole backside of the stock mainfold out. I did'nt gain any ET with it but did gain 2mph in the 1/8. Went from running 96 to 98 with the nitrous in the 1/8. It was the only difference in the runs.:D

I'am building my 4.6 back with stock 96 cobra flat top pistons with flycuts. Also installing Comp 278's. My problem is that when I'am trying to degree them I can't even get through a whole revolution without the intake valve having PTVC. What piston combo can I use so that I don't have any PTVC. Any help would be great as I need my car running in two weeks for beach vaction. Thinking about buying a set of stock cams because like an idiot I sold my stock stuff, just so I can put it back with no issues. I would rather use the Comp cams, Help!

There already hitting.

Have you started the car yet? You are gonna need a tune with that compression ratio. You probably have 10:1-10.5:1 depending on the heads. You are going to have to add fuel and pull timing out so you dont blow the head gaskets out or put a hole in your pistons. Good luck.

Comp XE278 cams will not work with stock flat tops. They will have to be flycut or you can order some with the valve reliefs already in them.

lol he wont be able able to start the engine with the valves hitting the pistons. He will also be over 11:1 with a cobra shortblock.

Yeah, I'am thinking that the the compression will be like 11.5:1 with my 44cc heads because I did some research and I bought a Sean Hyland book and it has the compression chart with the proper cc heads. A 42cc head with flat tops have like 11.8:1, and with a 52 cc head its like 10.8:1, so I'am in between that. Thinking about buying a donor engine and building another shortblock with the right pistons so I can run the 278's. MMR has a nice set of pistons ready with the flycuts. Thanks for all the help. Post when I have results, looks like I wont get cams till monday because of holiday. So motor should go in middle of next week.
