I'm collecting the hardware I need for my EFI conversion following BottleFed70's build. http://forums.stangnet.com/653470-bottlefed70s-custome-efi-conversion-writeup-part6.html

I've got a gift certificate to Summit Racing that I got for my B-day last month and I'm thinking I could use it to get the high pressure fuel line I need. Problem is I don't know what type line I should get. Metal, braided stainless steal, or something else.

Where I really get lost is with the AN sizes and fittings.

What do you guys recommend?

stainless steel braided line is great stuff but man, it gets expensive with all those fittings. I personally went with an aluminum 3/8" summit hardline and just bent it (very easy to bend by hand). Works great. I was running a Walbro 255 wide open and dead ended at the fuel rail (I believe it can pump out close to 100psi).

I really like the stuff, and will use it again. It's like $20 for 25 feet (which is more than enough) vs the $75 for 20 feet of steel braided. You can use -an fittings and line for the short runs, but it is overkill to be honest. Just some regular old EFI fuel line connected to barb fittings with a hose clamp is more than enough.

Again, it just has to do with how much you really want to spend. Im cheap, so I went with the aluminum line, 2 hard tube ends, and a couple -6an to 3/8" barb fittings. -6an or 3/8" is more than enough fuel supply for these motors.

Post up more specifics about your swap so we can make recommendations. I can probably help you out and list out all the fittings you need. It really isnt hard.

Just as a guide:
-4an = 1/4"
-6an = 3/8"
-8an = 1/2"
-10an = 5/8"
 
depending on what inside diameter hose you want to run tells you what size AN fitting to use.
Lets say you run a 11/32 inside diameter braided hose then you will need a -6 An fitting.
Here are the common sizes of (ID hose) to AN fittings.
7/32 = -4 AN
11/32 = -6 AN
7/16 = -8 AN
9/16 = -10AN
11/16 = -12 AN

Inside diameter of hose is rated on the horsepower you will be running.
 
I've got a 351w making 250 or so horsepower. You'd expect more power huh? I think it's the roller cam that's costing me with the large ports on those CNC heads I've got. Not the most optimized engine combo I've built.

3/8" fuel line should be enough. Id recommend a Walbro EFI external pump ($108 shipped on ebay). It comes with 3/8" barb fittings for each end. Again, if you want to be cheap like me, I used a rubber EFI hose from the output of the pump to A 3/8" barb fitting and ran a bypass valve back to the tank drain (acts as a return line), then another efi hose from the "T" to a Summit fuel filter. Ran a hard aluminum line from the filter to the front of the car. Again, rubber line with barb fittings to the rail. Works great on the 4.6 in the 66.

I saved a couple hundred bucks (easily) over steel braided supply line, efi bypass regulator, steel braided return line, and whatever else that might be used. I would say the whole setup (including pump) was around $200.
 
I agree with XOX .
3/8 line will take you well past 400 hp with the correct pump, any larger and you will over do it and then be using adapters to plumb it up which is wrong.
The original high performance mustang and shelbys only had 3/8 line and some had only 5/16 line
 
Thanks for the suggestions. Metal lines sound like the way to go. Did you install a fuel pump shutoff valve? I haven't looked yet but I would figure Summit has to have something like that.

I thought about making a surge tank as I'd seen others do online using a large fuel filter, but after emailing BottleFed I decided to just duplicate what he did. I've got a new fuel sender I can add the extra return line to.

Someone on the forum said it was possible to drop an EFI pump into a 73 tank, but I've seen no write ups on that. There is a line that goes into the top of tank somewhere. It comes back from the unused carbon filter thing in the engine bay. Emissions?
