Man, this must be the season for big injuries.

Umenyiora, Brady, and now Merriman

Not to mention the countless others. Jets better watch out, Favre might be next the way this whole thing is going

I wonder how Peyton is going to be this year, if that knee will bother him or if he'll regain his normal form.

Another issue I have with the homerisms of 5.0 is that he said the TE for Denver was one of the best? How about these names:
Jason Witten
Ben Watson
Dallas Clark
Jeremy Shockey
Antonio Gates
and even Kevin Boss (Yes, I think he's going to be very good after he gets this year under his belt from what I saw in his limited action last year)

I think all of those and a few others are ahead of him. I just can't get over how much of a homer this guy is being.

I'd add Chris Cooley to that list. What TE is he talking about? Denver has no top notch TE's. They have about 4 guys over there that are average at best.

Kevin Boss needs to work on his blocking before he sees more time on the field.

I agree 100% with Redline & Jason. Did I just say that? Yes.

5.0GTkid- you are acting like a homer, you just don't see it. I remember you making grandious comments about Cutler last year that made me chuckle also.
Get clear on this: What you are saying about Jay Cutler is NO DIFFERENT than what a Redskin fan may say about Jason Campbell. No different at all.

Cutler is young and he looks pretty good. My friend and I both saw some good throws by Cutler last night and some bad ones also. He's OK and probably will get better with more experience.

We are not saying he sucks or anything like that. You have him in Canton already and it's just laughable. He has accomplished nothing so far. He doesn't hold a candle to the top QB's in the NFL yet and Denver's receiving corps is average at best.

Show me where I have said anything about Cutler and Canton. You are also twisting around what I have said. I know we're going to be going in circles here but just about every decent sportswriter has been singing Cutler's praises since his rookie year...he's far better than "OK"

And if you think Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, Darrell Jackson, Brandon Stokely and Keary Colbert are "average at best" than I suggest you re-evaluate the talent level of most teams receiving corps.

I'd add Chris Cooley to that list. What TE is he talking about? Denver has no top notch TE's. They have about 4 guys over there that are average at best.

Tony Scheffler...the guy who did this...
2007: Scheffler, in his second in NFL season, played all 16 games (7 starts) and ranked second on the Broncos in receptions (49), receiving yards (542) and receiving touchdowns (5)... Placed 10th among NFL tight ends in receptions, 11th in receiving yards and tied for eighth in receiving touchdowns... Tied for fourth among league tight ends with 47 receptions during the final 11 weeks of the year
That was after missing the first 4 or 5 games of the season. Watch some of his plays, you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'm a horrible person :(

I hope Peyton gets better soon hes on my Fantasy team. There are so many players this season (big names) that are playing with, recovering from, or getting injuries. Its a part of every season but I think its shaping up the 08 season more so then any other. Merriman is hurt I don't expect him to last the season he should have just gotten the sugary. Brady is gone, Peyton is recovering. Vince Young his hurt and so is Jarrad

I believe this will be a season of attrition. May not be the best team winning, may be the most healty team winning it all

At first, i was agreeing with 5.0.. But now, i see that his comments were biased. Its clear 5.0 that you are favoring the Broncos.

I am 100% a Giants fan, but for me to come out and put my team on a pedestal is just not the right thing. I think your not looking at the reality that is the NFL.. For you to say Brady and Manning don't hold a candle to Cutler, i think your very mistaken. Brady and Manning are some of the best to ever play the game.

I'm not saying the bronco's aren't a good team with a good QB because they are. But they are not as high and mighty as you made them out to be. I think the Pats in there current position would be about to beat out the Broncos.

So again I ask, what pedestal have I put the Broncos on? No one has provided a single quote showing where I have done this. The only thing I've said is that I feel in the AFC West we are the team to beat, which isn't a bold statement considering the Chargers are the only other team in our division with a legit shot at the playoffs.

As far as the Brady/Manning vs. Cutler deal, I only said their arm strength doesn't compare. That's a physical attribute, not a mental one and it's fairly easily proven. And I remind you that arm strength doesn't make or break a QB, since Jeff George is pretty much the consensus pick for strongest NFL arm ever, and he never amounted to anything.

I suggest you guys go back and read my posts again, because what you're saying I said and what I actually said aren't even close.

I cant wait for the Eagles/Cowboys game next monday night. very huge game this early on in the season.

Actually Redline, this is the game I'm very eager to see as an NFC East fan.
My good pal at work unfortunatly is an Eagle fan.

If anyone is permitted to have the Homerism disease, it would be an Eagles fan after last weeks game. A good homer would claim that the Eagles have the best receiving corps and that McNabb is the best QB in the NFL.

Remember guys, don't feed the homer. This is not what this NFL thread is about, we all have our disagreements and our arguments but at least its all on a sane level. This is by far the most astonishing posting I have ever seen in this yearly NFL thread and Ive been here for every single one of them, So lets do all of ourselves a favor and get this thread back on track to where it should be and leave him to post and quote everyone all by him self all year long. Then we can all $hit on him when the Bronco's go down w/the big fail boat. As far as anything else concerning this topic or about him Im done hes already proven what he is as early as week 1

I belive this game will show just how far the eagles have or have not come. Dallas should be right where they were last year and even better.

I just read on NFL.com that Merriman is out for the year. He decided to have the surgery. Wise decision, IMO. Injuries to your top players suck. Seasons are literally lost because of them. Losing Brady, my #1 FFL pick will pretty much insure my FFL team will not reach the playoffs.

As a completely neutral person...and not that I really care...what you said and what they said you said are close enough!

Just clearing things up from an independent view

Really?

What a game tonight! Broncos completely dominated the Raiders!! Here are some of my thoughts on the game.

- Two words...Jay. Cutler. I don't think there is a QB in the league with a better pure arm than Cutler. The arm strength and accuracy is amazing. The guy simply throws lasers. With his 3rd year in the system, an improved offense and diabetes under check, I look for him to take his place among the best QBs in the NFL.

- Our running game was good but not great, although I suspect this had more to do with the focus on the passing game rather than any trouble with the runners. Selvin Young, Andre Hall and Michael Pittman all made some good, tough runs but there was a little more guessing than I'd like.

- We have the best receiving corps in the NFL. Eddie Royal played amazingly well in his rookie debut, Darrell Jackson made a great touchdown catch and is a solid player, Tony Scheffler is one of the best receiving tight ends in the NFL, Brandon Stokely a great slot receiver and we'll get Brandon Marshall back next week.

Oh and speaking of receivers, would TheRican care to step up and eat his crow? He was saying Eddie Royal would not amount to anything and that was clearly proven wrong tonight.

- Our offensive line played the best I've seen since our Super Bowl years. Jay Cutler was pretty much unmolested all night. Ryan Clady played great at the hardest position on the OL, Harris looks like a 3rd round steal and Hamilton looks very impressive after missing last year with a concussion.

- I still have some concerns about our defensive line, but we have alot of young talent there and Jarvis Moss was inactive as well. Overall the defense was solid but it's clear we are stacking the inside too much and that opens us up for outside runs.

- Linebackers were very solid especially when you consider Webster and Williams were back at their natural position for the first time in years and Winborn is out of position at SAM.

- Champ Bailey is still far and away the best corner in the NFL. He had his receiver blanketed all night. Dre Bly is the perfect compliment on the other side. McCree, Manuel, and Abdullah provided solid play at safety.

- Our special teams coverage is much improved. After giving up a couple long returns early they tightened up and getting down the field very fast.

As far as the Raiders go, I won't go as indepth but here is my take. JaMarcus Russell has a long ways to go to be a starting caliber NFL QB. He makes poor decisions, is not very mobile, lacks confidence and throws a horrible ball despite a strong arm. He wasn't getting any help from his OL or receivers but he still looked horrible. McFadden has alot of talent but I don't think he's durable enough to be a full time back. I'm thinking he'll be Reggie Bush 2.0.

Their defense is decent, but they lack mental toughness as evidenced by their mental breakdowns and amount of personal fouls commited. This is a unit that has alot of individual talent but I don't see any chemistry yet.

Well thats all for now.

Call me crazy, but I'm not seeing that pedestal I'm supposedly putting them on.

I agree. I don't mean disrespect to 5.0GTkid but he sees things very differently than other football fans, announcers, sportswriters and coaches do. Usually this is closely associated with fans of the Redskins but I guess it can happen to anyone. I really don't want to spend time of this thread picking on his team either.

Crap, I knew I was forgetting somebody. Thanks for pointing him out for me. I was sitting there thinking, "now who am I forgetting? There's another big one.. what's his name?!"

I can't wait for that one! Go Eagles!! (I hate the Cowboys with every ounce of my being)

:D just kidding.. that would be crazy tho! lol

McNabb looked damn good.. Wonder how he'll look against the Cowgirls.

Thank you for your unbiased opinion, it was much needed (And no, i'm not being sarcastic) :nice:

If by the Patriots can make it into the playoffs and make it past the first round, i'll go to the nearest betting place and put $50 on them to win it all... just because it won't be a big loss, but the odds would make it a huge gain

I know, I know.. it's only week 1 and we just lost Brady.. I'm just trying to have some optimism and non-bad thoughts lol

Yea, really.

According to you, "I don't think there is a QB in the league with a better pure arm than Cutler. The arm strength and accuracy is amazing"

According to you, "We have the best receiving corps in the NFL"

I could probably go on, but I'm getting bored with trying to find your rediculous quotes.

Come on - you are 100% OVERRULED on this! Can't you see that EVERYONE thinks you worship your team in a distorted view?

/talking about 5.0 kid

So who do you think has a better arm? I can find lots of accounts from different scouts/sportswriters etc all raving about Cutler's arm strength.

According to you, "We have the best receiving corps in the NFL"
And I stand by it. Maybe "deeper" would have been a better choice of words, but as I clearly showed there is no other team that has the sheer number of legit starters that we do at the position.

Why? I did the quoting for you. Thats the problem with this thread, a whole lot of emotional posts but no factual evidence to back it up.

Come on - you are 100% OVERRULED on this! Can't you see that EVERYONE thinks you worship your team in a distorted view?
Majority of people once thought the world was flat too. Sorry, I don't subscribe to that theory.
