6.2L BOSS motor being released!

The 6.2L boss is a massive motor, both in size and weight. It's not the best fit for a sports car. The 5.0 cammer motor is a better option.

Can't be any heavier than the current blown 5.4L DOHC in the GT500? That baby has to clock in at at least 700lbs.

And the 5.0L "Cammer" isn't even an option.

That being said, does anyone know if the 5.0L "Coyote" has wider bore spacing than the current mod blocks. It would be nice to know if later on down the road we have increased displacement stroker/big bore engines to look forward to from the aftermarket?

I can't see Ford bringing the Raptor to market ... Would there be enough demand? I'd have to imagine that there is more people wanting a Lightning than a "factory pre runner" truck.

i think its half and half. alot of guys who are into offroading that i've talked to can't wait till it comes out,at barrett jackson the raptor they sold there didn't do so hot as compared to other things selling before they came out.

i'd love to see a 6.2 putting out some big numbers thrown in a stang. but whats the boss motor rated at? as compared to the 5.0 they are talking of throwing in. power vs weight they may be better off keeping the smaller motor in the smaller car. especially because of the modifications to fit it in the engine bay.

and then the normal motor the 4.6 or whatever it will be, will look like a midget in there after they shim in a motor thats almost a hundred cubic inches bigger.

the 4.6 will look like this in the engine bay compared to a 6.2

although, that'll make the smaller motors much easier to work on and around.

True, the Raptor isn't for everyone, even for people who are into offroading. It is a desert race style truck that is made for high speed driving over desert type terrains. It is not 4 wheel drive, and not suited for rock crawling, mud running, or even general trail riding. So, unless you live near Pismo, its a pretty small niche market. Sure, there will be some people that will buy them just because they look cool, but very few people would even know what to do with 11" of wheel travel.

Also, I've not seen any numbers on either the 6.2L or the 5.0L Coyote yet, so whether the weight gains would be worth it or not are a valid point. But I stick by the saying that "there's no replacement for displacement" and would love to see a big HP BOSS motor offered in the Mustang again.

i definitely agree with the fact theres no replacing displacement, i love that saying, but the problem is, even big motors can put out very little horsepower if set up wrong.

just take a look at the 454 SS trucks. 250 horsepower or so, but 454 ci.

and the 5.0 will probably use a majority of parts from the 4.6 and the 5.4 modular series, which means some aftermarket parts from the other modular engines could be used on the 5.0s. the 6.2 being a brand new design, wont have much aftermarket at first, and even then, its going to be expensive to modify.

i'm all for a bigger stang motor, i've said several times we need a big cube motor to have some awesome naturally aspirated performance from ford we know the motors are capable.

I don't know the specs on it, but I've heard that the Boss motor dwarfs the current mod motor. But, yeah the GT500 motor is a battleship anchor.

In fact, a lot of what I know is hearsay, because I've also heard the new Coyote motor uses the same 5.0 block from the FR500. I'd love for that not to be true, so I'll believe you now instead:D

Call it wishful thinking, but Ford did the same thing with the Boss 429 back in 69. They had to seriously modify the car to fit that nascar engine in there. It would be cool to parallel those lines in history with the current car.

Here's hoping they re-create the boss mystique and legend with the new 6.2L.

the only problem is they did it in 69 for a big reason. with the economy the way it is. i don't know how much of an incentive they have to do it.

they had to have so many produced with that motor to have it clear nascars standards.

I wouldn't say that engine would be nesecarily any heavier or bigger than a 5.4. Hell I wouldn;t doubt if it was still based off the same design. But internal size has nothing to do tith external size anymore. A few examplys, a Chevy 4.8 liter truck V8 is no smaller than a 7.0 liter LS7 or any of the other gen 4 and 4 smallblocks in-between. A 5.4 is hardly bigger than a 4.6, just a little from increased deck height, but a 5.4 block can accomodate 6.2 liters too. And the big one, the Ford 5.4 liter DOHC engine is LARGER externally than a Chrysler 426 Hemi, which means probably also larger than the Ford Boss 429.. The moral of the story is, Ford would have NO problem building a 6.2 liter engine that will fit in the Mustang. Chevy's 6.2 that you get in a GTO is smaller than our 4.6.
