This is my first post here so please bear with me. My wife has a 99 GT Auto car that she wants us to turn into a race car when we buy her a new car sometimes after new years. She already has a '71 SS Chevelle with a 565ci big block chevy that her dad races for her and I have a '99 Z28 Camaro that see's limited track duty, but she wants a real race car that we can both drive. The car is basically stock with just a flowermaster exhaust system. She is willing to cut on the car but doesn't want to put a cage in it yet meaning we have to keep the et over 7.49 in the 1/8 mile. Being a Chevy guy I'm not that familiar with the Ford modular motors. I was thinking though that maybe either a single turbo or supercharger set-up with a posi rear and a good set of slicks might be the answer but I don't know what the 2v motors are capable of. The car will eventually see either a TT small block or a S/C big block and low 6's in the 1/8 as the goal. Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Also anybody with a set-up that is already similar to what I'm looking for I would love to see the spec's on it. If my expectations are unrealistic I am sorry but I would gladly enjoy any knowledge that can be passed on.

Single turbo would definitely put you in the 12's, but keep in mind that there are N/A 2v GT's out there running 12's with just great tires, suspension work, most bolt-on mods and lots of practice.
There's a yellow mustang on here somewhere that runs 11.9x, I can't remember his forum name, but I think he doesn't have any sort of FI, i THINK lol someone will be in here shortly to correct me if I'm wrong.

One of the guys at Jaws Racing, here in Tallahassee, has an '00 GT, automatic, with VT stage 2's, hooker headers, Prochamber, ported heads, STOCK INTAKE MANIFOLD, JLT CAI, 4.30's, and ET Streets. Best time of 11.92 in the 1/4. Videos on streetfire look for "bolt on GT 1/4".
Thanks for the input, I will do some more research. The reason I was considering a turbo or S/C was because she loves car's like that. I'm more of a big cubes N/A guy myself, but this is her car and has been for 9 1/2 years. I was thinking mini-tubs, welds with slicks, posi rear with drag springs, converter, and maybe a Vortech @ 9 PSI

10.5 slick will take the car into the nines with 31 spline axles and a carrier.
Look up the J mod for your auto.
then throw a gear and converter at it
Then do longtubes--X or power chamber with a cat back system
Upper and lowers will help the 4 link rear.

ported heads, cams, lt's. around 300ish rwhp will get 12's, and the sweet spot for N/A 4.6's is 4.30 gears, and 26 in slicks or et streets, its a geat combo
ive ran 12.81 @ 108, but my best trap is 109.5 in bad weather, im sure in good weather i could have trapped 111mph, im doing quite a bit more work to my car including more power, better suspension, and some weight reduction, and hoping to run ROCK BOTTOM 12's

Sheesh, anything you do to those Stangs especially in that year, the car Will be quicker! Any help here will probaly make the car faster. These guy's advice is very spot on. You know the basics, Large filter, cold air or dense air intake, throttle body; w/o force induction 75mm w/f.i. maybe 90mm, upper plenum, you already have a performance improvement lower intake; if you use nitrous get a metal one, may be port your heads, a non-aggresive cam if you want F/I, I wouldn't mess with underdrive gears if you want F/I; steedas, if you want underdrive gears, 4:10 rear gears, aluminum drive shaft, backseat delete, oil cooler, 31 spline axles, typical exhaust; Long tube headers, H pipe, slicks, 180 degree thermostat maybe 160. Make the car lighter, I heard someone making there Stang in 99-04 at least 3100lbs. Your stock wheels are 19lbs, the star ones that look like a star. Air conditoning delete. Electric water pump. Is this a daily driver? If you do those things, I think you will be in the 12's
. You can tear apart the engine and put forged pistons, new bearings Cobra crank shaft and new springs. The pistons you have are cast iron, which I've heard could just burst into much like dust when stressed enough.

Just go with a twin turbo kit that includes a K member and coilovers. With rear suspension and tires, you would be deep into the 11s. That will give you time to save for a built block or rear end. Trick flow heads on that combo would be insane.

My bad, Hyper-pathetic alluminum, either way, any forced air induction, you are on borrowed time, and will cause more problems. Change them so you can run forced air!

You'll find that everyone will tell you that adding FI making more than 400hp on a stock 2v bottom is all you'll wanna take it to, if you go more than that you'll grenade the bottom end. 375hp,a good suspension set-up and slicks along with putting it on a diet, will definitly get you in the low 12s maybe in the 11s

well technicly he cant, because 98cobra has npi heads, and cochran191 has a pi motor. im messin with ya, he can have his heads p&p they'll flow WAY more than a set of npi heads if done right. heck if so he'll see a lil more hp at that note
