I really disliked the chrome pony from day one. Five dollar can of gloss black for plastic surfaces. Scuffed up the pony and taped up the area real good.
Three light coats and your done!! Came out really good IMO.:nice:

Beats the hell out of buying a completly new grill!

Looks good, I did the same thing to the fake gas cap on the trunk lid. I used flat black as well, it looks good with the gloss black car. Masking around a circle with straight tape takes a while, but it was worth it. I might have done what you did too, but I went with the CDC grill instead.

No you know...if you had bought a high temp can, you could have done your emblem and your calipers and then you would have gotten your five(well it would have been 15 for hi temp) dollars out of it :rlaugh: actually you should since you don't like the chrome. looks strange having the front blacked and the rear not :p

That looks good! If/when you do the rear gas cap, take it off and paint it as it will be much easier than taping around it. It is held on by double sided tape.

I agree that having a black pony up front looks better than the chrome:nice:

KD, thanks for the tip. What about the GT emblems on the side, doubletape too or something else? Is fishing line the best way to remove the rear one?

This is the only other picture I have at the moment.

Looks good Patrick. :nice: I hate chrome too, and am going to do something with mine. I'm looking into black chrome or black nickel plating for the pony, faux gas cap, and GT emblems. I think that it would match my mineral grey car better then gloss black.

:nice:
The GT emblems are in fact double sided tape with two alignment pins. You need to be careful though as they are thin and can crack/break easily! I used my library card to get under the emblems as it's not as flimsy as fishing line, but also not as bulky as a regular credit card. Just work at them slowly and you should be fine.

Here is the emblem info.

The library card method.......KD you rule!!!! Thank God for the internet. I would never have thought of that.

So did ford put the pukas (holes) there cause they didnt trust their guys to install them properly? LOL At least I will be able to put em back on straight! LOL

Yes, the holes are for brainless installation:nonono: The base model V6 is the only one to come with no fender holes...or emblems.
Here is a pic of me doing the rear spoiler removal with said library card! Actually this was after I removed the spoiler, but still getting all the adhesive off.
