View attachment 228336

Oil is oil my friend. Don't fall for all the marketing schemes out there. You saw how clean the heads were when the cam covers were off that day you were at the shop. Conventional is all my cars get.

Crap gotta watch the vid at home.. Not loading at work!

BAD ASS man can't wait to see this thing!!!!

Thats a confidence booster Im sure, being able to start it up and let it idle on its own. Nice work so far!

I think it sounds incredible!!!

that's so badass, Matt!! congrats on the successful first start!! :nice:

sounds sick btw!

Thanks to all of you guys!! You always are following my work and have kind and motivating things to say. Next up is.....????.....a bunch of little stuff. Hooking the ABS ground wire...I hope that is why the ABS light is on. Paint and assemble the calipers/rotors/pads/brackets/e-brake cables. Mount up the E-brake handle, the cooling system (Waiting on brand new A/C lines from MPS since my originals got bent up somehow. I think someone ran them over with a forklift. Get the tail lights wired, the door harnesses, 3rd brake light, wiper motor arm modified, uuummm......the list goes on before I even can consider the minor body work and the paint work. :nice:

Put it this way....in 2 months, 4VModFox is in the same stage Hack Job was in after about 8 months of work. I cut the labor down a lot since I knew exactly what to do. I also have worked faster because there is less thinking involved. And a tad less work getting 97 parts into a 91 versus 2001 parts in a 1981. Lots of differences, you wouldn't believe how much changed on those 4 different years. :)

i have that same phone :nice:

HAHA...no way!! MY work pays for my phone since we have like 7 Nextels in all, so that's the only reason I keep it. I've had that phone replaced about 5 times in a year and a half. It always shuts off on it's own for no reason and the flips break a lot. Nextel is a PITA to text on to. They are the ONLY carrier where you ahve to download texts. It takes me forever to send and receive!!! :notnice::notnice::notnice::notnice:

:bs: synthetic > conventional oil My 5.4 use to knock like crazy when it was cold, UNTIL I switched to synthetic. I've been running synthetic in it for years now and I hope to get another 125K+ out of it

I wonder if the same person who ran over your trans wiring harness ran over them?

:D:rlaugh:

Most of the time if you switch a higher mileage engine over from conventional oil to synthetic you develop leaks since synthetic is thinner and cleans out the "gunk" left from years of conventional oil use.

Matt the thing sounds awesome. I say get her outside first before doing anything. Otherwise weld in 2 cats that will quite her down :D

Conventional FTW. If it hasn't had synthetic since "birth" there's no sense in it. Especially in a fox IMO.

Car sounds good, there's no such thing as too loud :D

I bought my truck new in 03, ran nothing but conventional Valvoline 5-20 in it until about 45-50K or there abouts. Can't remember exactly. I switched to Amsoil when the price of conventional shot thru the roof and the cost of oil changes every 3k vs 7500 w/amsoil (and the knocking when cold) didnt add up or cut it. Immediately the knock (common in modular 5.4s) went away and has never returned. I switched to Valvoline 5-30 MaxLife Full Synthetic when my buddy gave up his Amsoil dealership and MY price for what I was paying him for it went up.

I put Motorcratf 5-20 synthetic blend in the wifes 08 Ford for the first 2 oil changes and then switched to 5-20 Valvoline Synpower for the time and $ of doing oil changes every 3k miles

No leaks in my f150 after switching from conventional to synthtic and I'm about to roll 123k on the odo. :)

That exhaust needs to go IMO Matt

Dude tell me about it, my phone does that same shut off bull****, texts take forever to receive, but one thing is ive ran it over countless times, dropped it in fuel tankers, took a shin kick to it, and has been thrown in anger a few times and just wont give up, and yes i have nextel for the same reason i dont pay for it lol

Your 5.4L engine knocks Jay? Oh man, I know a guy at a salvage yard who can sell you a better used one!!! :rlaugh: I've got exactly 123K on my 97 and don't have that problem. Every 3,000 miles I have to add a quart of oil, but I don't drive like a Grandma.

And you will never see me use synthetic oil. I never used it in my old Cobra...(your new one) I always used Castrol or Valvoline conventional 5w30. I don't use synthetic in my 04 Cobra either. Anyways, I don't want to clog up my progress thread with this oil topic. All of our delivery trucks at work have the mileage that follows:

97 Chevy2500 5.7L 205,000 miles. (Now retired to the yard truck)

96 GMC 3500 5.7L 175,000 miles. (For sale cause we bought the 08)

05 Chevy2500 6.0L 163,000 miles.

08 Chevy 3500 6.0L 27,000 miles.

93 Dakota 5.2L 223,000 miles.

99 F150 5.4L 167,000 miles.

All used conventional oil changed every 7,500 miles. Not one has had a motor problem.

Honestly, it doesn't. My truck has been one helluva truck. I've only replaced the exhaust manifolds, a $30 vacuum line, the starter and the positive battery cable in 123,000 miles. All the front ball joints were done because one went bad, so I just did all.....
