what kind of tires are you running? I am trying to decide on 15 or 16 inch wheels for my fastback that is in the process of being set up for track driving. i have noticed that hoosier and goodyear has several 15's, and not many 16's.

Is there any kind of event around you that you can go to to check out others cars?

The track day at Hallett for the Mid America Shelby meet would be a perfect example. I always look those cars over good for ideas.

Is it a dedicated track car or is it street / occasional track?

Also, if you are considering 16" wheels, I would go ahead and make the jump to 17". Tire selection for 16" wheels is very limited.

I run 17X8, 4.75 backspacing with 225/45/17 front and 245/45/17 rear. I have the Falken Azenis RT-615's. They were the hot street/autocross tires for years, but there are several out there that will out perform them now. If I were in the market for new street/autocross/track tires today, I would probably go for the Nitto NT-05's. - Nitto Tire - High Performance Tires for Car and Truck Enthusiasts

OK, if it is a dedicated track car, that is trailered to the track, I would go with Kuhmo V-710 or Nitto NT-01's. I pick up Kuhmo V-710's used, but still showing the groves, in 225/40/17 and 245/40/17 cheap. I'm trying to convience my wife that I need dedicated track wheels.

I am going to run toyo R888. 235/50/15 on a 7" wide wheel. I will run that on all four corners.

dont mean to highjack but i have a question along similar lines.... mine deals with the width, since i will have a small block V8 up front and manual steering (rack and pinion) will it be hard to turn off track like into parkin spots if i go wide all the way around? i was thinking of going and inch or two skinner up front cause i recall a pickup i had with larger tires was a pain to turn when the power steering went out. but if this car isnt gonna be such a pain with manual R&P and wider tires i would rather have the larger contact patch for when i do get on the track... and i am not a little guy, 6'2" and 225 pounds and am in good shape and lift 3 to 5 times a week so i have strenght just curious how much of it i may need!

I'm 5'-8", 165 and have no problem driving a manual rack with 225/45/17's up front.

As long as its rolling shouldnt be a problem the 285's Hooseirs we had on the front of our car were a bit to turn sitting still but even rolling slowly it was a non issue my wife even drove with no power assist at some autocrosses.
No forein tires will go on our beasty...KUMHOES,NEETOES or the like. All American Mustang here...

well i was refering more to rim width, i am thinking 9 inch out back and was wondering would it be benfitial to go 8 or maybe even 7 up front? or would i loose too much contact patch and make it handle worse...

Are your rear wheels 17x8 with 4.75 BS as well?

I wouldn't have thought that woukld fit, seems like more BS would be needed out back to get the 275s in there.

The wheels are 17x8 with 4.75 BS, but the rear tires are 245/45/17.

I have a Lincoln Versailles rear, so it doesn't quite translate to a stock rear. I'm using a 1/4" spacer right now, so I'm sure I can fit 255/40/17 with my next tire order.

I've run Hoosier R6's (225/45), Goodyear Bluestreaks (6.00x15) and now Nitto NT-01's (225/45). They are all great tires, with diff characteristics and prices!

I run 15x7's both on the track and on the street (215/60), it is a little harder to turn with sticky tires, but not so hard I think about it.
