What's it worth? And a couple other questions about a 88 LX

Been talking to a guy about an 88 LX. He is asking 5800 for it. 5.0 efi, 5 spd, 64,000 some miles, all stock except for a k&n.
Air Condition, Power Windows, Power Mirrors, Power Door Locks, Power Steering, Cruise Control, Tilt Steering Wheel, Rear Window Defroster, AM/FM Stereo Cassette, Premium Sound Package, Dual Illuminated Visor Mirrors, Flip Up / Open Moon Roof, Tinted Windows, Alloy Wheels, Wheel Locks, Remote Keyless Entry Alarm.


He told me today that he bought it new in 88 stopped driving it in 98 due to getting a company car. He starts it once a month. Clutch was replaced 6 years ago but is basically brand new cause he don't drive it. 3 years ago he had all the seals and stuff replaced on the engine cause it was starting to drip on his garage floor.

He said it was repainted due to the paint oxidizing a few years after he bought it. Does this sound normal? I don't know how well the paint was back in them days.

Keep in mind it's suppose to have been garage kept

The headlights are cloudy, from the pics the interior looks great, the paint has chips in the front. and there's a dent in the hood. He said the dent is from a retread hitting the car. The rear bumper has a good size rub mark. Said the movers put something against it in the trailer and rubbed the paint off

I have the vin to double check the miles if I wanted too. I was just wondering what you guys think it's worth.

Hard to tell from the pics, but being that its bone stock and only 64K miles, that price is pretty fair.

Would there be a need to worry about it sitting for so long? He's been starting it so the fluids are circulating through it and It's been getting test drives around his development. I guess if anything was gonna leak it would be by now. It kinda make me wonder why nobody has bought it. I guess it comes down to seeing it in person and taking it for a ride and maybe a carfax. For ****s and giggles I typed the number in and only got 5 records. I gotta pay to see them though

Paint looks a little rough. Being that it's been painted, I'd be worried about the quality of the paint job.

I'd offer 5K and maybe pay as much as 5200-5300. If I was even in the market for one, which I'm not, haha.

Check the date codes on the tires...if they are from 1998 or older...figure a new set of tires into the price as well.

It all depends on where you live and how rare the cars are. A clean, unmolested, sub-100K mile V8 car around here is REALLY rare. It's hard to say without seeing it in person, but around here, a car like that would fetch 5K easy.

ok here's something to compare too. I actually seen this one in person. Sorry pics are taken with my cell. It's a 91 GT? 107.000 miles guy wants 5,000 "non negotiable". Car looks great except you can tell it has a new driver side headlight and corner light, the fog light isn't centered in the hole (is that fixable?) and the spacing in the hood is off a little bit. It's also missing the ash tray door

It all depends on what you plan on doing with the car. Any 5.0 is going to be at least 17 years old so I wouldnt be looking for "perfect" condition for $5000....if you plan on keeping it stock and just driving it, than having a COMPLETE unmolested original is nice, but if you plan on doing the normal upgrades find one thats a little cheaper and put the extra money into the parts you want. Around here (South Carolina) it is getting harder and harder to find one that some kid hasnt wailed the hell out of. I paid $6700 for my 93 GT with 85000 miles on it. Mint interior, 8.5 out of 10 exterior.....basically stock besides a Procharger and some simple suspension upgrades.

Being a GT or an LX doesn't really affect the value of the car when you're talking about Foxes. If it's a V8, it's a V8. Lots of insurance companies won't even distinguish between the two, because the only real difference is looks. The value difference is nil.

The year doesn't really matter either. Both cars are roughly 20 years old. Mileage and condition are more critical at that point.
