Before:

Just in the last year, I put on the wheels and tires, lowered it, drilled and slotted rotors, off road X pipe, tinted the taillights, put on a black taillight panel, and new guages faces. I spent 3 hours the last two days re surfacing the headlights. Then all this happens.

I find no humor in this post.

1st off, it didn't need a even a single drop of paint, I don't know where you got that idea. 2nd, I am still VERY much upset. Matter of fact, I'm getting hammered as we speak trying to forget about it, if even just for a day.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but that's not funny to me at all, maybe I wasn't ready to make a thread about it.


As for the story, technically it was my fault and I won't argue that with anyone, but in reality it could be attributed to both drivers. I pulled out of my parking spot that I backed into without being able to see around the truck beside me, to be ran over by a Ford Super Duty crew cab that was HAULLING ASS with a gooseneck trailer attached to it. That much weight/ momentem is no match for a little Mustang. I love that car, I only say "at least it wasn't my 68" because that would have been the only thing that could have made it worse in my mind.

sorry to hear, and to be honest i didnt find the other post humorous at all either, but im sure he was just trying to lighten the mood a bit. sucks it happened right after all that work, i spent almost 5 1/2 hours washing and waxing my car the other week only to have it keyed for no reason. no where near as bad as your situation but it just adds insult to injury. hope your insurance covers you.

Sounds like you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Glad you're ok though. And glad it wasn't the classic. As hard as it is to say about any car, that one can be more easily replaced than the 68.

Exactly! That car is waaaaaay more easily replaced than my 68. My 68 may look bad on the outside but the drivetrain, interior, and engine bay are waaaaaay more awesome than my 04. I'm 28 and have owned my 68 for 10 years, more than a third of my life and will never let it go. It's my baby. Some people think I'm ****ing crazy for being happy that it happened to my nice daily driver 04 GT rather than my "ratty old 68" but they just don't understand irreplaceable my 68 is. It holds tremendous sentimental value to me. Even though I was really starting to love that 04.

Looked like a huge spot at the left front needed paint(due to peeled clear coat) in the before pics... Maybe the angle of those pics caused the view to look that way.

Sorry you didn't like my post, but I find it easier and better overall to use humor rather than alcohol or anger. That's just me. The car is replaceable... They made about another 100,000 just like it, but better still, now you may be able to buy a 2011 and get some serious performance!

I probably shouldn't resort to alcohol, but seeing as how I'm Coor's Light number 20 and still have better grammar than most, I'm think I'm alright. Also, to be truthful (and no offense to anybody personally) it just pisses me off to no end when people say "It's just a car, at least you weren't hurt." I would just about rather be hurt and not remember what happened than to know I put this nice car through this ****.

Your car was always super clean IMO & even though they made tons of Sonic Blue new edge GT's, these cars have sentimental value & you may never find another 1 that was as well taken care of as yours. Unfortunately it looks to be totaled, but hopefully I'm wrong?

Wow; looks and sounds very close to the damage done to my daughter's (cowgirl tink) '96 GT vert.
She attempted to pull out from the stop sign on the road leading to her "office" at the time; only to have her car "de-nosed" by a speeding RAM2500 4x4. The cops (actually Ft. Bragg PMO's "traffic unit") had been complaining about the pines making that a blind corner and more-or-less dealing with some of the speeding on that road for some time; as their building was situated right there. This time, the other driver was caught 5 minutes later with a little more 'assertiveness' by the K-9 unit, as some of her dog-handlers (or more correctly, she was "their dogs' Veterinary Tech") were sitting in the PMO parking lot and witnessed the whole thing. Five minutes later, the guy was 'a little surprised' to find himself surround by 4 Army cops with German Shephards in his parking lot. Moonlight Blue paint marks on his red Dodge and pieces of the Stang's front fascia still stuck in his front bumper/winch mount made it an easy collar.
Apparently, he was known to the PMO guys professionally, and this little 'hit and split' has put the Dodge off-the-road; unless he's sold it to somebody who still has driving priviledges for the forseeable future.
Luckily, Tink was just coming off-duty, so the baby wasn't in the car; and she escaped with only some facial bruising from the airbag.

Insurance 'totaled' the Mustang, which was no surprise to my daughter and son-in-law; as AJ (her husband SVTCobra306) had his friend who owns a bodyshop look at it and throw out a prelim quote. It looked like the only way it would be doable would be to front-half the car, which was feasibly 'out of the question'; even with AJ handling the engine and suspension repairs in his own shop.
The real heart-breaker was that, not only was the car very driveable and you might say 'sprirted' (they'd started modding it about 4 hours after buying it) for a first-year 4.6 Mustang; but Tink had bought it with her inheritance from my mom. I got to drive the car last time I was in NC; and it was a beautiful ride; took the twisties like a roller-coaster and barking the Kumho Xtas on 1-2-3-4 shifts was no real problem. Losing the car was pretty tragic, to say the least.

This year, they used their HUGE tax refund to replace the '96 with a '99 Cobra 'vert that was reportedly "PERFECT CONDITION" from a guy who was once one of the "Rotating Banner Advertisers" at the top of every StangNet Forum page. After a lot of work; AJ has gotten it nearly perfect; and she's rockin' that car now.
So yeah, losing "Tranquility" (Tink named the car after her Grandma's cabin in the mountains) was a pretty big deal; but Grandma's spirit must've been riding shotgun that day and took care of my daughter, so it was truly "just the car". And just like anything worth having; it could be replaced after some time and effort.

your stang was indeed a nice car, but i hate to say it, and i know you will be upset, but the reality is that it is still just a machine. even with the attachment i have with my 64 falcon and my 66 mustang, and yes i would be both very angry and very sad id either car was destroyed, they are still machines. the mustang was my first car, and the falcon has been in the family since it was new in oct 1963.

i would however rather be uninjured in an accident, and my car totaled, than be injured in an accident.

i feel your pain bud. but you only feel this way now because the car is the most valuable thing in this accident. and you are young no offence. When i was your age i took these things the same way. Until i saw a accident 2 car in front of me and a limp body in the car after. now accidents don't bother me as much when its just metal.

i think the car is a loss. especially if the air bag went off. make sure they check for frame damage cause that bumper mount is bent down and the hoood is smashed in pretty far.

if your insurance total losses your car ask if you can remove the aftermarket parts you put into it. or if they can give you a price if you keep the wreck if you want to fix it.

just start looking for another daily driver. good luck man.

if you don't have full coverage call the person who has it now and ask them how you can get it back asap. then when you get it back, remove all the good stuff that you can. or part it out.

Honestly, besides my family, I can't think of anything that I'm more attached to than my cars. I didn't realize how much I loved this car until it's gone. We've had this car the whole time we've been married. Sure it can be replaced, but anything else will not be the same, and the large sentimental value is gone.

Have to agree here. As I said; the pics look a lot like the pics of Tink's 'vert. The most obvious difference is that the bumper mounts were bent over to the right about 1-1/2 - 2-1/2 inches.
(The guy must've been really honkin' along!)

Now, here's some food for thought (if it's not too late).... their Insurance Co (USAA; 'cause Trish is Still in the Army while AJ separated with an HD after 10 years and three combat tours) actually gave Trish $5200 after the buyback of the wreck! Now you probably don't have the contacts that they do (Mustang Club members who just happen to be "in the business"); but if you in fact do have those kinds of contacts, it might be something to think about.
(Honestly, I have to laugh..... $5200 + the chassis.
Trish talked the PO down to $4900 before she agreed to buy the car in the first place. Her Grandma would be proud!)

I call bs to your insurance company. better talk to a manager there and ask them why you can't get your car back. also what are they valuing your car at? low blue book? whats that?

i take it you have full coverage or comprehensive collision. also read your policy it will tell you your options in these matters.
