are any of you guys running these heads?

i stumbled across them a few different places and was pleased by the price and the fact they are aluminum. pros and cons on thises? i'm seeing GT40 heads in the $200+ range that would probably need to be rebuilt before putting them back on the motor. for not TOO much more dough, i could have a set of shiny new aluminum heads and probably outflow them to boot. any pros and cons of this setup?

Those are the Performer 5.0 heads. I used to run those and had no issues with them and they made good power as long as you don't too wild on your combo. I bought mine for 700. I see them in the 500 to 700 range used all the time. As long as they don't need a lot of work done to them, they are decent heads in my opinion, for the price. But the Trickflow and AFR heads are probably better. What kind of price are you talking about? Check out this link.

I have them and they've worked great. I came from ported iron GT40's and the edelbrocks helped a lot. Haven't dyno'd but the "A$$ in the seat" feel is great!

i actually tried to go back and edit my OP but must not have done it correctly. i had a dumb arse attack and didn't realize until AFTER i started this thread the prices i was looking at were listed as EACH. i've found them listed at a couple of different spots where you can pick them up for about $490 each. i didn't initially read the description close enough and thought that price was for a PAIR of heads. the longer i thought about it it wasn't making any sense so i reread the description and sure enough, SOLD INDIVIDUALLY. looks like i'm back to the used market

thanx for the input! that's really the comparison i was looking for. it's not too hard to find the GT40 heads and they seem to run around $200-$250. for another couple hundred bucks i could possibly step up to a used set of these aluminums and it sounds like i'll be much happier in the long run.

i haven't looked at the link posted above just yet so this question may already be answered but how would the eddy heads compare to aluminum GT40x heads? they both seem to run about the same price new, i'm suspecting they'd run about the same price on the used market?

Yeah, that's why I asked what price you found, I know a few other people made the same error. Oh well, nothing wrong with used heads as long as you check them out good.

As far as the link, the did test the gt40x heads but not directly against the performer heads. The performers were run on a 302 and the x heads were run on a 331. There are 8 parts to the whole test, it is a very good article.

Of the 9 heads they tested on the 302, AFR 165's put out 396 HP. Stock heads made 306, GT-40P heads made 336 and the Performer heads made 384.

All that being said, numbers alone should not be the only reason to buy heads. They should fit well with your other parts. But the numbers will give you an idea of the heads ability.

It shouldn't be too hard to find a deal on heads. I bought my RPM heads for 600 bucks new in the box! (Out of work gear head). I sold my Performers with roller rockers for 850. Good luck!

I see you are running a similar combo to me, except I'm using the NX264HR which is only a .512 cam. Did you upgrade your valve springs to use the 274 cam with the .575 lift springs that come on the RPM"s are did you just run them as is?

I am running them as is for now. But I am thinking up upgrading them in the future for some more wiggle room. But they do seem to be fine as is.
