Fox respect... or the lack thereof

While my '89 GT wasnt the fastest car in my high school parking lot (383 camaro walked on me), it was in the top 5 and was bone stock. The most fun night I had was when this out of town kid came rolling into town in a Shelby Cobra clone (HCI 302 powered), and all of us auto class guys took our cars out for some good ol' fashioned heads up racing out on a dead end black top. I was third place to the Cobra clone and that damned stroker camaro. After that night, I was very surprised with how many people respected my little $3500 stock GT. Gotta love small towns.

I can't believe that anybody would let a comment about a car get to them personally.

You can say anything you want to about my car, as long as you wear a mitt, cause you're gonna have to catch what I throw back.

Being a smart ass helps. You have a trunkload of snappy little quips just waiting for an ass hole like reply #1. encountered.

Regardless, It's still just a car. There'll always be A holes (take me for instance) Don't let it bother you.

When chevy people hate on the fox....I show em this now!:D

To quote Larry the Cable Guy, "Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are !"

I find people hate on these cars because at one time they used to be the benchmark for what was considered fast. Of course times change and cars change and now a stock Fox is considered slow. But they might just get a shocker with some of the stuff that guys are putting under their Stangs hoods now days. Also I think people are amazed how these cars just keep holding on and on in popularity, as if the last man standing. I've seen lots of rage cars come and go since I've owned my Fox.

My favorite story, I was taking pictures of my car in a parking lot and some guys drove by in a Pontiac Solstice (or maybe a Saturn Sky <cough-cough>) and took it upon their self to yell out how ugly my car was. Unfortunately I couldn't get in my car fast enough to track him down and tell him how ugly I thought his car looked as well.

Its a car, im sure he had something bad to say about your shoes too. Everyone is diff and everyone hates/likes diff things. Me, i dont give a fawck what anything thinks about me or says about my cars, if they dont like it good for them.

What's your response to the naysayers? I had a guy tell me today when I told him I had an '89 that the 80s Mustangs were the ugliest generation (not counting the IIs) of Mustangs ever. He said they were junk, and boxy "Fairmonts with horse emblems" All I could say was "well that's your opinion"... What do you do with idiots like this?

Invite them to meet me at the nearest traffic light. Although that almost never happens. People around here tend to like fox mustangs. And a large percentage of the ricers know better.

Most generally people respond positive toward Fox's, every now and then there are a couple idiots that dont like them. I personally dont care because I bought mine because I enjoy it, not to please anyone else.

Agree with them completely, and then blow their doors off.

I gotta say...his assessment was pretty much right on the money.

Who was this asshat and why was he speaking to you that way? I've never had anyone directly insult my car like that. Most car guys will at least be respectful, even if it isn't their cup of tea (except for gearbanger :p ).

Now, NON car guys can sometimes be dooshy, but it's only because they don't know any better. I knew a guy in college that used to say my Mustang was ugly, but he wouldn't have been able to tell you where the alternator was in his Pontiac Sunfire if his life depended on it. He also wore women's jeans and was the kind of guy that would sit with one or two other people in the middle of campus and play hippie music with their acoustic guitars. I'm not going to let his opinion bother me. :D

A non-car guy, a co worker, so you see I can't just unload on him :D

As far as not letting it get to me, I'm a car guy. I take that chit personally :flag:

I've already spanked a 94 Cobra.... hard. I do like to prowl the streets, though it's not a smart thing to do. I'm getting the notch track ready, though it's been one piece at a time :)

The only real naysayer i've dealt with was a coworker who drove a C4 Corvette, and to him the Corvette was the epitome of sports cars and no Mustang on Earth could hang with his mighty Vette. So, i took him for a ride around the block which includes about a half mile of highway, and when i pulled onto the highway i hammered it and banged through 4 gears like i was making a pass at the track...he didn't make a sound. Once i had slowed down and was almost back to work, he says "yeah i think you'd give my car a run for its money" to which i replied "buddy, i'll run you title for title RIGHT NOW...i could use a new daily driver".

He got fired a couple weeks later so i never got my Vette DD

I usually agree then I educate them on Areo and 4 eye, that usualy makes them say 79-86 are the ugliest.

then I sit back and let people with 4 eye's fight the battle

Since I bought it in 2003, there has only ever been one non-family member I have trusted to drive the t-top car. It was a very good, long standing friend of mine. He used to always tease me about caring so much about a Mustang that wasn't a "classic Mustang". However, once I started to let him drive the car, he couldn't get enough. He used to BEG me to let him drive the car.

In short, put any naysayer in a Fox and go for a drive, especially if you let them steer, and their attitude will change. I've driven a lot of different kinds of vehicles, and what I've found is that driving enjoyment has very little to do with what the car looks like or how fast it is. Fox Mustangs are just some of the most enjoyable vehicles to drive, to own, and to modify hands-down. A lot of people don't understand that.

On that note, I once drove an OOOOOOLD convertible VW Rabbit, and it was some of the most fun I've ever had in a vehicle. The shifter was probably 3 feet long and NOTHING had power assist. It might as well have been a go-cart with doors. Knee-jerk reaction is to poke fun at anyone who drives a Rabbit, but until you do it yourself, you don't know what you're missing.

Haha, you bastage.

normally around here foxes get some respect. there was just one time that one of my 5th grade students saw me driving it and said "thats a whackass car". not as whack as her face hahaha. well being who it came from it didn't really bother me.

One kid in high school, always asked why i drove such an old car. He played soccer and was the kicker on the football team with me. His parents bought him a Land Rover and never understood why I would just buy a better car. One, I couldn't afford it and second, I had a CLEAN notch back which sounded awesome and handled fairly well, with great power. All the other guys on my football team loved my car. I asked him how many looks he received at stop lights with a thumbs up. I could never put a price tag on the experience I received for working on the car myself, and fixing the old fox up.

I only let one person from school drive my car, ever. A girl of all that.

Those stories usually end up with "and that how it ended up wrapped around a tree".

To the OP, don't worry about it. I get tons of hate from people about how my car is ugly. The wife complains about how it smells like gas and is too loud. Most everybody couldn't understand why I kept it after I got my Cobra (admittedly it is a nicer car). But I don't bother trying to explain it to them, they wouldn't get it anyhow.

To be honest, she was the only one in my high school I would trust to drive my notch (other than my stepbrother). Just once around the school jogging tracking. She would drive her mother's and father's mustangs to school all the time. I knew she wouldn't try anything stupid to show of, unlike a male.

When I bought my fox all my friends asked me why I wouldent of gotten a newer car and said my car looked a slow pos. I took them for a rip around town in it and now there always begging me to take them for rides lol! One og my friends has a corvette stingray(1977ish I think) and said his car is so fast and i wouldent stand a chance against it, I took him a ride too and he's never said anything about how fast his vette is after that! But I do have to admit that the fox body's arnt the nicest looking cars out there.
