Wanting to replace the speakers with some kickers thinking the KS Series or RS Series from them but I don’t know what size the front and rear speakers are, I have the Mach (460 I think) in the car now.

Edit: forgot to add i have a 1997 GT

Thanks!

Yea I was debating on this a few months ago. Turns out it can be a little questionable. Regardless of the speaker size you end up with, sorry not sure what it is aftermarket speaker sizes are. Problem is stock speakers are 2 ohms and aftermarket are 4 ohms.. I think the 460 system was designed this way for the added bass for midrange speakers. I read aftermarket speakers do not sound as good with the stock amps. Take my reply with a grain of salt however because I am no stereo guru.

I went this route...

There's 2 twelves in that pile. I've heard alot of talk about compatibility. Didn't feel like dealing with it. It rattles your teeth pretty good. :D

The M55 is a mono sub amp running the twelves at 350 rms at 2 ohms.

The F65 is 4x100rms running the tweet/6's

The SPR-60C is a component system with a 6" woofer and separate 1" tweeter. Mounted the tweets in the factory location. One of the mounts they include slides right in.

I didn't use anything from the factory system. It's in a pile collecting dust.

JetMech,

That looks like a good fit setup! So basically you power everything except the subs with the mrx-f65, the spr-60c include the doors, back, tweets and crossover for tweets, and you power the subs with the mrx-m55. Did you locate the front amp at the same spot as the original factory? I'm just trying to figure out how it all works cause that looks like a great combo.

I was not planning on keeping the factory amps, but thats something to keep in mind :3

I thought the factory amps where in the trunk under the rear speakers or is that just my year?

Also looks good JetMech pretty much what i was having in mind to do with mine

Weird,

I have 2 in the back under the deck. I also have one behind the radio sitting on the hump. I found it while I was swapping my whole 2000 center console and radio bezel for one out of a 2003 SVT. I wanted the 2 din slot, and I was tired of hitting stuff in my front cup holder every time I went in second. Also, moved trac control and fog under the radio.

Each system has 2 tweets/2 6"s. One system in the doors and one in the deck.

For all I know there may be an amp in the front, but I wasn't paying real close attention. That Pioneer slid right in. Had it hit on something, I would've paid more attention. I've heard that third amp mentioned, but wasn't really thinking about. I was sick as dog when I was installing all that.

Thoes SPR-60C are 6.5" speakers right? and the car has 6 x 8, did the alpines just screw in fine no drilling/brackets?

If that is so then i think ill go with these, Kicker KS65

One of the main reasons I have kept my 97GT long as I have is because of the sound system. My recommendation is to completely eliminate the mach 460 amp and wiring. The amp isn't very clear, not a good match for aftermarket speakers and really buried in with the wiring.

I have 6x9 Boston Acoustics in the back, 5" (5.5?) Boston acoustics in the door and a tweeter in the stock tweeter location. The tweeter is held in by a PVC sheet mounted in the stock location. These speakers are powered by a 4 channel alpine amp. I also have a 10" alpine sub, powered by an alpine amp. Everything is wired up with monster cable.

Anyway, get rid of all the original stuff and upgrade. It's 15 year old technology that was factory cheap at best.

Thats what imma do, i already have a Kicker L7 and a 1000 watt sub amp, just need to get the speakers done, imma try and see if i can get the 6.5" to fit..

6" Alpine includes a 6x8 adaptor in the kit. From what is said on the crutchfield site, 6.5's fit with slight trimming. I don't think you would need to trim much.
