Yes either a vss sensor.... which is easily accomplished.

Is the valve body setup for 1234 or 123? Ahhh what I mean is does the Trans have 3 or 4 forward positions?
If it's 3, we can set the program to only go into overdrive when......
-Map at cruise has been achieved
-tps is below (name your setpoint)
-RPM is above (name your setpoint) this is so the car does not jump into OD to early.
-after a set period of time (timer- seconds-) this is so the car does not jump in and out of OD.
And we need a micro switch on the shifter so the ms does not engage OD and LU inadvertently.
I think these parameters will allow simple control for the OD and LU circuit.
Ohh soo many little obstacles,.....this is why I opted for manual switches.
I have the same gauge set that you do. Consequently, I have dedicated a vss to the speedo. I had a problem with that gauge set on the last build, I could never calibrate the speedo properly using the internal vss that was in the TR3650. This time around I ignored the internal unit, and put one in the tail shaft where it was plugged, and the output shaft was splined to accommodate a speedo sensor or cable. I currently am using the summit supplied speedo sender that came with the gauge set.
That all goes to say that I have two sensors on my 4R70, and I'm not using one of them at present. I don't know if the tail shaft mounted thing is gonna work properly yet though.
The trans is a 3 actual forward gears, with an electronic 4th and LU.
I would think that we could combine hysteresis to act as a fail safe to tell the ecu that the car is where it should be in order to engage 4th. W/O splicing into the speedo signal, and W/O installing a micro switch. That'll take a fair amount of driving to determine where the rpm, map, and tps all live together to say " I'm cruising on the interstate now, activate OD" to the ecu. I'd think that those combined parameters only happen at a certain speed, always. When to tell the lu to happen......ill just have to drive the thing to know when I want that to happen. But I'd think always w/I seconds after 4th at a certain map.
The only problem with using those parameters to tell the ecu to do that is a slight up hill, or downhill grade where I'd have to either put my foot into the throttle, or lift. Map will change dramatically.
A speedo signal will probably have to be there.
Ya spose I could just tap into the existing signal? How does the ecu correlate pulse count to speed there?
There really isn't a place for a micro switch on the shifter. B&M already provided 2 that are there for neutral SS, and B/U light. I'd have to Frankenstein a mount to hold a third, and fab up a tab to activate the switch if we actually need confirmation that the trans is in 3rd.
Since that won't happen for awhile yet, I guess I'll actually have to install the switches to make that determination. I was thinking that I'd just put them on long pigtails, and not cut them into the console, but after considering what could go wrong there,... ( the 4th gear pigtail falls between the seat, and I'm needing to slow down to get off the I state, now I'm grubbing around for that thing, unable to downshift, going 35 mph on an off ramp,cars lugging,.............). I'll just go ahead and mount the switches. Maybe they can serve as a manual override in the future.
