I could be wrong, but I've always felt that Eleanor indirectly led to the explosion in price of first-generation Mustangs that seemed to happen in the early-2000s. The movie that generated interest; so much so that Carroll Shelby got back into the game with his continuation cars. Next thing you know, even rust bucket fastbacks go for many thousands of dollars.

True story. Try buying a Gran Torino now, too. People used to give them away. Now, not so much.
Usually the point of dreams is beyond what you can obtain, my hatch was 14,000 brand new in 1989, I enjoy the car and think it was and still is a tremendous value and a great platform, but dream worthy ??

I though your ulterior motive was to see if anyone would post up modern cars, which a few did... I am not at all surprised the majority posted up photos of cars from the simple days... days when you were not isolated from the machine, but were an integral part of it.
No abs, no traction control, no navigation, no ac, minimal sound deadening... give me a machine I can drive.
Being of modest income, there is nothing out there I would trade my Fox for that is of equal value. Sure an air cooled 911 would be a blast, but I could never afford the up keep. A well done 260z would be nice, but they don't mean anything to me... the Fox however, brought back small block pony wars... and having lived through it, I'll always remember it for that... and I saved up for years to buy mine, so, it has sentimental value on a personal level and nostalgic level as well.
When it was new in the day, the girls would smile and wave, and the guys would throw a thumbs up. The Cameros and Vetts would turn off the boulevard and the and the 442's and DarthVaders would pretend they didn't see you... except the GNX guys... they would hunt you down, and it was on. See, it was the car no one wanted to tangle with... and the few that did, did so as a measuring stick.
Sure, I have dream cars...
But I'm keeping my little Fox Body.
You should do a post now on FEP about choosing your ultimate girlfriend. Because it's tough they can have their first choice and a second. I'm sure first would be their '85 T-Top and runner up might be something completely wild like an actual woman..?

Hey, now. I came close to posting my own project '89 as a second place. The main reason I didn't is that it's clearly not the ultimate car for me *now*; its value to me is represented in what it might become.
If "ultimate" is judged on the car's objective merits alone, then the list looks like: new Aventador, new GT-R, new Hennessey, etc. People picking 3rd gen F-bodies (which I also considered for my list, BTW) are clearly not picking on objective merits alone. Why can't a Fox have those personal, subjective traits that might launch a mid-80s Camaro over a GT-R? It did for me, which was why I bought what I bought.
I get that it might not for *you*...

I'm with ya. Every one of those fall in right behind the GT.
Given the choice to have the "Ultimate,"... How many would choose the car they currently own...Nobody did it here,..but over at FEP,......several did.

Guess you dont read my posts - big surprise - My Vert was listed as first.... like many here stated wanting a restomod, i feel my ride totally fits that bill, coyote, T56, full MM, 2014 seats etc, etc. even though a GT at 500 k and only given out by selection would be nice, where and when ya gonna use it, lol

Hey, all I know is that this thread lasted more than the average "casual" threads that show up here, and I'm all about that.
(That's me,...your everyday party planner, just arranging another little get together so we can all sit around and compare each others "dream cars")

That's the point. Call it the frustrated Non-millionaire in me, I always find it weird somehow that when the wrapping's and restrictions of money and circumstance are taken out of the equation, people still stay right where they would/could be because they are afraid, or just unwilling to stretch out and dream.
Somebody just won the most recent 450million dollar lottery,....one ticket,....one guy.
The truth be told, I myself don't even have a perspective for what a real dream car would look like if money wasn't an option. It's too far from reality to even measure spending 400k on a car. But with 450 million dollars, (lets just say half of that after taxes) I'd do my damndest to adapt. It doesn't take much "dreaming" to know that even earning 1% annually, your 225mill just earned you another 2.25 mill just sitting in the bank in your checking account. (never mind an actual investment worthy interest rate) . At that rate, a 400k super car becomes equivalent to chump change.
So,...back to the question......... if you could do that,...You're gonna put an 89 fox mustang in the garage next to your Aventador?

I'd have a Ferrari collection. Early and late model. I'm all about 60's Ford racing heritage, but once I satisfied those needs, a stable full of red prancing horses would be in order. I think the first would be a Daytona Spyder. Sweet mother of pearl those are awesome cars.

Ok, my 815 intercooled horsepower Eleanor would sit in the garage next to my Koenigsegg Agera R, or maybe CCXR when you put it that way. I just know that my life wouldnt be complete without being able to cruise with my family, because I am never allowed to cruise without them now, sure as hell wont be able to when I dont have a daily commute to work.
With 450 million I'd buy my t/a, a house back home on the beach, and get some trivial job. I'd invest the rest, live off the interest and spend the rest of my time travelling.
