Nick's "lvndpst" Restoration (and Slight Modification) Thread

Another " moment"?
You're gonna come up missing one of these days,......CSI will get called in, and the only clue to the crime will be your ball sack nailed to the garage wall, with the words " It has to get done, if it's ever gonna be done" written in Scro-blood beneath them.

You keep playin'

:rlaugh:

Had a doc appt today for allergy testing, which meant I decided not to go back to work for an hour afterword. I went home in secret and played, hassle free. @madmike1157 , youll get a kick out of this. I took the cover off my airbox to check the filter, and found this (after removing the filter).

After I removed the insulation, the Iowa roots came through strong!

So I removed the corn, and wiped it all out. Clean enough now.

I also remembered that the PO of the engine sent me his distributor and spark plug wires. Turns out Im going yellow. F it, they match the oil and coolant cap fonts. ;)

After feeding and bathing the kids, making sure the wife was all happy and :poo:, I hit the garage tonight at 8 PM. Im on a steroid right now for some sinus problems, and a side effect is insomnia. Sooooo, I got some stuff done.

As dumb as it sounds, Ive never bothered to gap spark plugs when swapping them in the past. Glad I decided to do that tonight, cause a few were almost closed completely... Gapped them all to .035, snugged them in their homes, then installed my new dist cap and rotor. Followed that up with running my sweet yellow plug wires, but couldnt stand the coil wire running across in bright yellow. Covered it in a black loom so its a little more... not bright yellow.

I double checked all vacuum lines, grounds, sensors, basically all connections in the engine bay. It was then that those two harnesses, one over each CC plate were staring at me. I rerouted them lower. One just under the air intake tubing, the other right along wiring on the driver's frame rail. Everything reached as far as connectors, easy peasy. I considered the hood latch cable, but its so small, I decided its ok where its at. Now both CC plates are fully accessible.

I had forgotten about my rust repair paint scratches until rerouting those harnesses... So I scuffed and touched up the passenger strut tower where I had scratched my new paint while lowering the engine in. Then I installed my clutch fan and shroud, and realized I needed a belt. I measured and quickly ran to Advance Auto for a belt before they closed, which fit like a glove and allowed me to tighten those fan/water pump pulley bolts. I was thinking of calling it a night...

I looked over and my transmission and thought, "I could bolt up the exhaust hanger and mount, and hand tighten the crossmember to it... Oh, and reinstall my clutch fork with the new throwout bearing..." And the next thing I know, my non stop energy had me bench pressing the transmission in place under the car. Its 100% in and tightened down, all the connections are hooked up, it just needs fluid.

Then I see its 11 PM and decide its time to head in for a shower, so I can lay in bed until 2 AM wide awake. Havent gotten to the shower yet, decided to let out more energy from my fingers to update the thread.

And now that youve scrolled past all that Madmike style rambling, here are pictures.

The completed bay, minus a good wash. Just stock with a tubular manifold... I will be painting my stock CC plates after the car gets aligned as well, but for now love that I rerouted those thick harnesses off them.

A sideways pic of the T5 up in place, with a non freshly painted crossmember nor exhaust hanger. Ive gotta find ways to keep @madmike1157 awake at night with me after all. Insomnia party!!!

Not gonna lie, I kinda want to go back out and install my mini starter, but its now 11:30 PM. Probably better to shower and go do some laundry and earn some brownie points for future purchases and nights in the garage. I still need to drop the gas tank after all.

Good job Iowegian. Is this engine " yet to be started", or have you already done that?

I too was in the garage,..only there was no sleep condition or drug keeping me there.
No " boundless energy" either.....MOF, I'd describe my movements more similar to Walking Dead, and the outcome of my efforts after several hours has a potential dark cloud hanging over it, instead of the anticipation you must be feeling.

C'mon, drop that tank. It will be fun they all say. Lots to discover. :nice:

I wish I had a garage with lights and stuff..... when the sun goes down play time is over.

When I first bought my house, I had a single 60w light bulb lighting up the entire 2 car garage. I had to use shop lights to get things done. When we finally got settled, I whipped in six t5HO fixtures and really lit that place up. Now it's my go-to to find a nice quiet place to hang out at night. I just need to find a couch, and a place to mount the TV. I am debating adding a small mini-split HVAC as well

I have not yet started it. I need to bolt up the starter yet, and stock H with O2 sensors. Plan to start it and set the timing as soon as possible. You dont think I really need to replace my fuel pump before just starting it for timing and idle set do I? Im only running 30 lb injectors. If I can temporarily skip the tank drop, I may just get it fired tonight.

Steve, I have a two stall garage attached to my house, which currently only houses the Mustang. I have found that keeping my white garage door open, and shining my flood lights UP at it creates a nice spread of useful lighting versus the floods pointed right at what Im working on. Otherwise I just have two dim standard house light bulbs out there that are nearly useless.

Might as well just buy an AL driveshaft?

Quit bein cheap.

Ding ding ding. We have some winners. Seems I remember alum driveshafts being $700?

Tonight I went out to swap my U joints with my boys, and hell were the old ones stuck. We got them out, but the Moog replacements from Advance Auto just didnt quite fit. By the time I tried them both, in with their lock rings seated, they were so tight they would barely move. For giggles I just checked out LMR, and a Ford Racing driveshaft made in the good ol' USA is only $329???? Yeah, I called Advance Auto, they said I could refund them as defects, as I go there all the time for everything I need.

That aluminum driveshaft is ordered, only $279 more than the damn non fitting Moog U joints.
