Nick's "lvndpst" Restoration (and Slight Modification) Thread

All those late nights doing laundry have paid off, the wife just said, "why dont you use today to go get your car done...." To which I dont even speak, just get up to change clothes, lol. In my mind I think, "Still waiting on that drive shaft," but thats priveledged information. Pics of today's work tonight. Will the tank drop go smoothly? Will the car get started today? Will the garage burn down, taking the house with it? Does a bear really :poo: in the woods?

I'm laughing at this...You don't even say a word, just get up and go....

You just don't know how related we are.

And she don't even notice the clothes you left on the floor where you changed.
Maybe she just wanted you out of the house so she can finish knitting that ugly christmas sweeter that you will have to wear when the inlaws come over.

The good, the bad, the ugly. Thats the theme for the fail I call Sunday. Tank drop went well, easy as could be.

The good (even covered in Iowa farm dust):

The bad:

My stock sender worked fine, but when I pulled it out to inspect it, I could see it was covered in rust.

The ugly (unpictured):

The inside of my tank is full of rusty fuel. Its cloudy... Couldnt get a good pic, but when I would let the fuel run back out of the filter the wrong way, its gross. I will say that WIX filters seems good quality, because that rusty fuel was clean when it passed through the filter...

So now I am at a stand still, as I am not doing the whole clean, treat, pray method for the old tank. New one is ordered.

I forged on and installed the mini starter that the PO of the engine had thrown in with the deal. His name is Ross, not sure if he is a member here, but man did he hook me up with extras when I bought his engine. And thats after he gave me a heck of a deal on the engine itself. I did the reconfiguring of the wiring quickly, and got her bolted up.

He also included a 3G alternator, but I stuck with my stock one for ease of assembly while getting the engine back in, as its new anyway. I will wire in the 3G in the future.

be advised...alot of those mini starters need special attention as the integral starter relay, sometimes hangs when you only rely on the stock trigger wire to kick the starter drive off. I have a 30A relay that is wired to the mini starter "trigger wire" so I send a full 12v 30a signal to that btch when I turn my key.

Good to know, I appreciate the info.

I rolled the car out to power wash the underside while the tank was out. Another 5 lbs or more of dirt removed!

This is from before the wash, just rolled out.

I wire wheeled my tank straps to bare metal, primed and painted them with the grey I used on my engine, and cleaned/painted the tank cover. Its a little rock eaten, but Im ok with it.

Next I need to wire wheel, clean and paint the underside of the car where the tank belongs. Cant wait. :notnice:

Yes, there's supposed to be a grommet on that spot above the tank

Edit: actually, it looks like it's some sort of "patch" from inside the spare tire well. I'll pull it apart tomorrow and look. I need to get under mine and clean it up a tad as well

Thanks man. No need to pull anything apart for me. I'll find something to plug it.
