Nick's "lvndpst" Restoration (and Slight Modification) Thread

Car was running with timing set by timing light before I parked it, and I havent moved the distributor since.
I thought that you had the distributor OUT of the engine, swapping things out.
Go down to AZ, or HF if you have one Jeeves,...
Spend 10 more dollars and buy a remote starter.

Come back home and hook that remote starter to the easiest engine in the world to do that to, and remove the #1 plug.
Remove the distributor cap ONLY after you have traced, and marked the position of the #1 plug wire on the distributor body w/ a sharpie.
Stick your finger over the # 1 plug hole,...

Press that button and let the engine roll over a couple of times.

Then start paying attention to rotor position, and tap the engine up on the compression stroke with that button. When you get the thing at TDC, stop, and see where stuff is.
Rotor pointing at your mark? Timing pointer showing TDC?....

We just ruled out incorrect distributor phasing.

If not, send me a plane ticket so I can come up there and slap the piss out of you..Or, you can save the money and do it yourself.

Damn, I tell you what, I did have the distributor out replacing the PIP and TFI. Man, I am getting old, cant remember chit.

Thing is, I had this no start issue BEFORE I pulled the distributor and replaced chit, and I marked it and put it back just how it was when I did have it running.

Im about ready to send you a plane ticket to come figure this out for me. It'd probably be worth it.

There is a remote possibility that I'd come up there to see my mom for a couple of days,..and I'd probably have to fly into DesMoines...But certainly NOT Cedar Rapids.
And THAT would only be after I forced myself to accept the fact that I would have to stay with a CAT lady w/4 cats..living in a filthy house that has been closed up for at least 6 months...:puke:

Naaaaahhh!

Spend 30 minuites with mom (come on! Its MOM!) And a couple days at nicks wearing pretentious hats or boxes, your call, laughing and drinking while posting pics of that stupid wire he forgot to hookup.

So from the time it last ran to now, what has changed?

The car ran on the new engine?

Yes, the car ran on the new engine. I drove it to a gas station, put a quarter tank in it, realized I had a lot of rocker noise and backed it into the garage to retighten them. Hasnt run since.

Now I'm a rookie here but seems to me if you complete the no start checklist we likely would not be having this conversation.
Carry on.

This is true. I chose to pull the upper intake with my time last night and look for any missing connections, smashed or cut wiring etc, to eliminate the obvious. I need to circle back and test the ignition cylinder with a voltmeter, amongst a few other things. I did buy a volt meter, just havent picked up the noid light yet.

My vote is compression test time

Sure as :poo:, ZERO compression on all four passenger side cylinders. And yes @CarMichael Angelo , I had the compression test tool seated so it wasnt just blowing past it.

How I was able to spin pushrods and only turn the rocker nuts a half turn past zero lash and be so tight that I have the valves stuck open, well that is beyond me. But I will be backing them all the way off and reading up on how to set them up again from full on loose.

I have never heard of that...why is the whole passenger side head dead, and not the driver side? How did you hulk out, and crank the sht out of the rockers on the driver side, then turn back into DR. Banner, and not SMASH! the driver side head into adjustment?
