It's weird for me. There are weekdays when if I decided to close my eyes after looking at the time first thing,......
I'd go right the hell back to sleep,...and wake up hours later.
Too Late for morning coffee,.......too late to watch any news,....too late to check in, and dick around here for awhile...too late for work.
Butttt...........
Let it be a Sunday.
Let it be the day where I absolutely don't HAVE to do nothin'
And I'll be dead awake at 6AM.........and have to force myself to stay in bed.
I just get up instead.
It's the cars fault. The car talks to me in the wee hours. It's like it's alive. Like a dog that you started to pet, and now the damn thing won't leave you alone. It corrupts free space in my head....You guys just think I do sht over several times......you should see how many times it's already been hashed over in my head before I ever bend, cut, or weld a single damn thing.
Remember this?
This idea had been rolling around in my head since 2007. I actually tried to put it into play on the 1953 Studebaker street rod that I was trying to build back then. But failed at it.
I failed at it twice in this current car before I finally figured out how I wanted it to look..
What something looks like in my head, or on paper never turns out to look that way in reality....
But I get it close..
The plan was to have the bars "float" with no obvious tie to any mounting system. And they were supposed to be one continuous circle of steel,....completely surrounding the driver and passenger..
The freakin little Japanese Kid forced me to adapt that plan.
How about this?
That took 5 times to become this:
In reality, I'll bet that the current version don't do jack with regard to forcing air into the rear radiators...I always kinda regret sht-canning the original "Countach style" scoops, given that I didn't know then how the whole monster was gonna turn out..( I think he coulda carried those things and rocked them...) id probably have had to call them "Gila bags"...since they were kinda saddle baggy looking.
Of all the things that started out in my head, moved to paper, then into reality on this car that ended up looking dead to rights was this one little detail....the front lower valance.
But look at all of the rest that didn't carry....
My right side bulged hood ( that was its own total project ending fiasco)
The license plate lives in the bumper, the tail lights are recessed, and the original G-hole exhaust tip is gone,...cut up for scrap..
All of this reminiscing revolves around my choice to stick that air filter in the wheel well, or attach it directly to the turbo, and build a box cover over it to isolate from under-hood heat.
I'm really getting tired of all of the fab work that's stopping me from being done.
The simplest damn thing is to stick it in the fender well again, but the vey next time I'd get caught in a rainstorm like I did last summer, I'd be gritting my teeth wondering how much tire spray that filter was soaking up,...wondering how much longer I could drive it until a completely soaked air filter was gonna stop me dead on the side of the road.
The other painfully simple solution is to just attach the stupid filter to the turbo, and build a two sided box that mounts to the fender apron and seals the filter from engine bay heat ( which effectively make up the 3rd and 4th sides of a box)
Then I'd have this " what the hell is that big box thingy in front of the turbo" thing that I'd have to deal with......if not from onlookers,......then definitely from my perspective.
You'd think that I live for this sht but I don't...I just want to drive it...
But it's gotta be fun.
It's gotta look good.
And I gotta like it.
