Progress Thread The "grátis" 1966 Coupe - final sheet metal repairs

@horse sence @Davedacarpainter Sandblasting large panels such as the roof, hood, fenders, and quarters is out, but can I blast things like the cowl without warping metal?
With sand? I wouldn’t. Get some crushed walnut shells or maybe even soda blast (though you’ll want a really good water separation system for that).

Sounds good. DA it is. I've decided to go with HF's cheaper mobile (non-pressurized) media blasting kit. Going to start on removing the floor pan this weekend.

By the way, the ignition piece arrived today! Thanks again!

Nope, the key is the heat build up. Sand heats the panel and that’s what warps it. Remember my hood?

The shells won’t do that.
Hmm. So you're saying I could blast it myself with walnut shells and save the trouble of stripping the panels with the DA?

If so, would you use the coarse or fine grain shells for that?

This is good news for me.

I'll just have to give it a shot. This car mostly has primer and body filler on it. Some parts are painted that ugly blue color. I'm not sure how much original paint is under all that.

While we're at it, @horse sence do you have any experience with the Dynacorn one-piece fender apron assemblies? I'm considering going with these since there is damage to my rear fender aprons (missing hood hinge nuts, torn sheet metal, etc.).

I've noticed that CJ lists alot of parts with Dynacorn part numbers as part of their "CJ Classics" line. I considered buying new metal from Dallas Mustang since I would have the opportunity to inspect anything for damage before buying, but everything is so muhc more expensive there. The same one-piece apron goes for $120 at DM.

I'm not really sure what I should use, if I should replace it all or just get some cheap rear aprons and patch in the nuts for the hinges?

In other news, I now have most of the tools I need to pretend I know what I'm doing.

Do you have a link to the part you're looking at? Would DM be interested in price matching CJ?

I bought a couple of cans of 3M weld-thru primer to coat some areas where new metal will meet old.

@Davedacarpainter @horse sence These tips came with the gun I bought. What's the difference? I need to read the manual for this thing.

I also bought these stabilizing jacks (just under $35 at Amazon) to level the car out. I'll use the other regular stands I have for support once it's level on these four.
