1999 Cobra T-45 Question

My T-45 in my 99 Cobra went out today and I've been researching a replacement. I was wondering if the 1999-2001 T-45s are univeral between GTs and Cobras. I've done hours of research and it's difficult to tell with the mixed information out there. I know that a 96-98 GT T-45 will not directly bolt on and a 96-98 Cobra T-45 will but has a different speedo setup. And as far as I can tell any 99-01 T-45 will fit on my Cobra without any modifications necessary. Is this correct?

Your research is not completely correct.

A 96-98 Cobra T45 will bolt up to your motor. The bolt patterns are the same across the modular motor line. The problems will start when trying to hook up the speed sensor. Mustangs older than 1999 use a VSS speed sensor. Where as the 1999+ use an OSS sensor.

Within the 1999-2004 model year Ford has changed the number of teeth in the OSS sensor. But if using a transmission with a different number of teeth this can be corrected in nearly the same way as a rear end gear change.

How to tell? Take out the OSS sensor and count the teeth. Put a sharpie mark on one tooth and count. If both transmission have the same number of teeth then no speedometer calibration needed.
