Progress Thread 96pushrods 347 build - Dyno results in!!

Well the 96 had a date with a deer while going down a country road, so that car is no more. Was quite a bummer.

So I picked up this and built it.

Got the car for $2500 running and driving. Test drove it and it wheel hopped like a sonofabitch. Got it on the lift and discovered the lca’s were both sheared clean off. Never seen that before.

I transferred over all the guts out of the old car into the new one. The orange had to go.

Thanks Dave, the official color is “dark teal metallic” and it’s looking great so far.

Question on those TFS tall valve covers. I have those same ones and had to drill the hole for the oil filler. There wasn’t any baffles so we drilled a hole on one for a breather and one on the other for the filler. Did you do that? No real issues on mine except that oil keeps shooting up into the breather, which soaks the filter and eventually will puddle out and drop onto the header. Anyway of fixing this?

I just drilled a single oil fill hole. I still run a pcv system, which runs through an oil seperator before going to the upper intake. No breather for me required - and I don’t know if I’d really have much room on the passenger side for one, since my oil fill is now on the drivers side. The oil fill tube has a line that goes into a welded on fitting on the intake pipe. You delete your pcv?

I’ve seen valve covers where people simply rtv their own baffles under the breather and that seems to work good. You could also braze it, but the rtv holds up fine. If you’re running the pcv valve then you really shouldn’t have the breather anyways. You could just cap it off.

Baffled grommets.

Got the underside of the hood painted. Got the car back together and did some final prep. Should be sprayed tomorrow hopefully.

I’m really liking how the color is turning out.

Man yesterday was kind of depressing. We have a body guy at the shop, and from what I heard he did good work. I threw him some money to break down the car and get it ready for paint. Well yesterday and Wednesday night I discovered his pisspoor workmanship. Yesterday’s paint day turned into blocking every bit of primer again and mudding a couple small low spots. Needless to say I was pretty pissed.

On top of all that he’s currently in jail. Jesus.

Was hoping to have the car ready for a show tomorrow, but those chances are looking slim now. We might be able to pull it off, if it can get sprayed tonight.

All right! Its all looking real good!
I'm grooving the modern Bullet Vibe now she's all together.
Now its time to go the local cruise in for burgers and shakes.
Is it broke in enough for a 1/4 mile pass?
