I have a 1978 MUSTANG II Ttop and want to build a daily driver. I would like to do a V6 but doesn't seem like the 3.8 will fit. Before people start saying put a V8 in like I already stated I want to build a Daily driver with decent power and good fuel mileage. Does anyone have any recommendations for a V6 that would fit correctly without redoing the whole front end. OR has anyone done a 3.8 Swap and it was not as difficult as what it looks like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A straight V6 to V6 swap would be the easiest by far, but you may be able to pick up the parts from someone doing a V8 swap into a V6 car. Either way, for the easiest bolt-in swap, the 4.0L engines are the same family as the 2.8L that was stock in the II so I would think that that would be the easiest. I don't know if there were any engineering changes that would make it more challenging than finding an original 2.8 though, but it would definitely be an upgrade. The 3.8 is a completely different animal and wasn't offered in a II, so unless they use 302 mounts OR the original 2.8 mounts, it would be a little more in depth as far as fabrication goes.

I have an original 1978 with a 2.8 and the original automatic transmission if you want we can talk trade or something. Right now I am currently debating on rebuilding it all or doing a strait swap to the 5.0 model.

I am actually looking at the 4.0 question is will the oil pan and pick up from the 2.8 work on the 4.0. If it does it would be a direct swap
