So I recently got a car that had been sitting for a while probably for about 10 years. When turning on the car it shootclouds of gray smoke and smelled like gas. I changed the fuel injectors, fuel tank and fuel pump thinking it would fix the issue. When the car is idling it is rough and wants to die and still shoots white smoke but not as much as before. It has a few missing connections on the harness. Any pointers as to what to check would be much appreciated!

The plug in this pic by the shock tower is for the ac limiter switch, the hoses are gone so don't worry about that one.
There could be many reasons for the smoke and ill running thing. I would replace the plugs, cap and rotor, a compression test would be a good idea too.
You will be told to check for codes too.
Are you prepared to do these things?

I have replaced the plugs. I’ll look into replacing cap and rotor and doing a compression test! The only thing that may be difficult for me would be going about performing the compression test. I appreciate the help :)

Does this have a radical cam? I hope the AC is the only hack work done on it and you can run the surging idle check list. That includes code check and much more. Without Miss and Miss and maybe hit parts replacement, it’s the best bet. And I was pleased how well my car idles (after initial start up when it’s cold) With a cam and ported parts.

Everything on the car is stock so I wouldn’t think that it has a radical cam. Do you know where I can find the surge idle check list and how to run a code scan?

So I recently pulled out the computer and saw that it was for an 88 Crown Victoria. My dad said that an engine swap was done to the car because the original motor blew. The swap was a Crown Victoria engine with computer. The engine was later replaced with an 88 Mustang Lx engine but the computer for the 88 Victoria remained in the car. Could it be possible for the computer to be causing all these problems?

If the HO and not HO firing order is involved, that would explain a lot. What model Letter/Number of computer is the current one?

Here’s the info

I located a computer locally with code DZ1 the guy claims its from a 87 5.0 Manual. I looked up the code and couldn’t find anything on it. Any clues to what it belongs to?
