Progress Thread French dude with a '79 Fox joins the forum - have less than 2 decades to get running!!

Nobody told you that thats a great year...Old enough for people to say what the hell is that.... Anyway love watching this one. Four eyes are cool especially first year...This is the first year??

Yes, 79 was the first year. The Mustang II was 74-78, then the first year for the Fox Mustang was 79. The Fox platform, however, was introduced with the 78 Fairmont. :)

Ye I think 79 are the first.
Down the line I feel like it'd be fun to go all in on the v6, like heads, cam, supercharger, push 400hp, all just for the sake of not going for a v8 :stir::jester:

There was a Hot Rod magazine (or maybe it was Popular Hot Rodding....) that had a feature car that was a blown 2.8 Mustang II. I don't remember much about it anymore, but I do recall it being red. I'll have to see if I can work some Google-fu and locate it.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the rear window wiper was only a feature on cars sold in Canada or otherwise exported.

I was thinking that too (local law thing) but I haven't seen the smoking gun. I've also seen it suggested that:

1. Had to be on a car that was [ordered].
2. Was a dealer option available from Ford.

It's actually listed as an option in the 1979 and 1980 Mustang brochures. (Note: I only checked those 2 years). Was only available on the hatchbacks.

Here's what the brochure says (it wouldn't cut & paste for me)...

"Rear Window Wiper/Washer
Wide sweeping wiper action across the 3-Door's large rear window area for a better view out back."

Hey! Look at the rear wiper everybody! :parg:

Probably one of the rarest options on a Fox body. LoL

The wiper thing feels like quite the discovery xD I'm guessing there's no production numbers for an option like this?

Probably not on the production numbers. Though Marti wouldn't have any problem whittling it down to a 1 of 1, I'd guess.

On a side note: Somebody else can correct this if I'm wrong:

I think the car has been painted before. I [think] the louvers behind the rear window cam from the factory, black.

On the 1979 Ghia's and Cobra's, the sail panels were painted body color ("Color-keyed side window louvers", in Ford-speak).

I agree, that sounds 1000% better than at least 99% of the Coyote aftermarket exhausts I hear blasting around this area. And I've always been curious as to how it'd sound with a Flowmaster 50 series. The thing is, though, that most people seem to have the almost childlike mentality that the louder it is the better it sounds, which isn't necessarily the case. This kind of proves that point imo. :nice:

Out of curiosity, how much would that sort of swap cost?

I guess that would depend on availability in France.

Here in the states, without having done anything like this in years, I'd say it could range from maybe a few hundred dollars if you found and bought a suitable donor car, to a few thousand if you had to locate everything individually. Of course, that all depends on what kind of shape everything is in too.

I think those are the TRX 390 wheels.
These were the top performance-oriented wheel option available at the time. However, the unique size made tire options very limited. The original TRX wheel measured 390mm in diameter and 150mm wide. This measured out to 15.35" by 5.9" and explains the limited tire options. To this day, the only tire option is the Michelin TRX tire. A set of these tires can cost more than $2k.

Nice to see another 1979 hatch show up. I concur with the comments about the wiper, sail panels, and rims. Tires would be crazy expensive. C4 transmissions are super simple. Are you lucky enough to have a hatch release button in the glove compartment? Only works with the ignition turned to on.

Nah unfortunately not :/
Would make the trunk issue almost nonexistent, but I'll just have to change the lock cylinder it seems.

Tire-wise I didn't know these wheels were hard to get tires for! Though in all fairness I had every intent to grab different wheels for it ^^
Cuz they're 4x108 lug pattern if I'm not mistaken, which is the standard used by ford... and the PSA group! (peugeot, citroen...) As well as some audis and volkswagens apparently. So finding cheap second hand custom wheels is a pretty easy process.

Yeaaaah, US V8s are pretty expensive around here.
I've had people talk to me about the rover V8 as a more local option, but it's still a budget though.

I think I'll stick with the v6 unless I stumble upon some kind of really good deal.
