Progress Thread LILCBRA's 87 GT vert project (now prepping to replace the left floor pan)

So I just ordered the deluxe Marti report for both this and my Cobra.... I'll share them in their respective threads when I get them. :D

And here's the Marti Report for the convertible.

Hey! You said under its own power!

I like the M report, fun to loook at, 2:73 traction lock and AM FM Cassette! and Early!

The thing that kind of surprised me was the 1 in 10 paint/trim codes. I seem to remember seeing these colors EVERYWHERE! Maybe they didn't have the tan interior.... but from what I understand the tan interior wasn't popular. That may have been a reason it sat unsold for like 6 months too. Or maybe it was a showroom baby? In any case, it seems it's lived a neglected life - including myself - for the last however many years. I'm hoping to start changing that in the next year or so. :cross:

Oh, on that note.... I never really paid much attention til recently, but I noticed that the center console main structure looks like it may have been painted black. I don't have any good pics of it, but if you look back to this post you can kinda see it....

Since I posted this earlier and it popped up in my Facebook memories that I shared with my family and friends, here are a few pics of the vert before I got that "new" top installed. Apparently I put that top on a year ago today......

The tattered boxes you see are the new top that I bought.....

I've been thinking of that over the last few days. I was thinking of trying something like a citrus based paint stripper hoping that it wouldn't damage the plastic. I'm open to ideas if anyone has any suggestions. I know acetone won't hurt it but I figure it'll take a little more effort than something like Citristrip.

As I mentioned in the Cobra's thread, I went ahead and ordered a throttle body for the vert. It'll end up just getting thrown into the pile I've accumulated.

I also ordered new star adjusters through Amazon that should be delivered sometime this weekend. These may get installed soon to make moving the car easier.

So I posted this in the video thread:

I've also added it to my Summit wish list.

I'm curious to see one in the engine bay to see how much more compact it is in comparison to the OEM setup. I'm also curious how something like a centrifugal supercharger would work with it. I dunno, but if funds allow when I finally do jump on working on this thing, this might be on the list! But I'll definitely need to have the funds in order.... :O_o:

Stock hood will not close with that intake due to the throttle body moving out to the front of the motor and the hump in the intake about 1/3 the way back from the TB. At least that is what I have read.

The Holley system above is an accessory system. It has a redesigned timing cover that everything attaches to. The intake in the video isn't a part of it - I'm sure they used it just to subliminally highlight their other products.

I have a question for those in the know..... I noticed a few weeks ago that it looks like a piece of trim or something is missing from the door in front of the mirror on the passenger side. I didn't think too much of it for a while, I figured I'd see what the driver door had on it and try to locate that piece. Curiosity got to me the other day, so I stuck my phone as close to the driver door as I could reach and snapped a pic. It looks like that piece is missing too.... what does that piece look like? I've looked through LMR's site and can't find anything. I know the earlier verts trim looked like and I'm hoping that it's nothing like that..... Or should I just paint that short area black to try to make it appear to blend with the mirror?

Is that a missing trim piece or just rusty metal from the door window frame?

I guess that's kind of my question.... I mean I know my 84 had a weird looking piece of trim that went around the mirror in that area. But they changed the mirrors for 87, then again in 89(?) when they went with the door mounted mirrors that most people try to swap to. So if there's a piece of trim that belongs there, it's like a 1 or 2 year thing.....

Dude... stop dicking around and get a good 3d printer that prints in ABS.

Then all you gotta' do is learn to 3d model and done.

You think there should be a trim piece there? There should be a trim piece there. O_o

I need to stop dicking around and get that garage put up! Then I could actually do some work.....

I dunno, the more I look at that picture, the more I think it's just supposed to be painted to blend - and that's probably what I'll do.

Booooooooooooooooring.

You're supposed to build a whole other room, spend $10k on computers and 3d printing gear and materials so that you can print two plastic pieces the size of your index finger. :coff:

It gives that illusion, doesn't it? But if you compare your pic and mine, that forward part that I'm talking about is the window channel like your car has. So it's this part of the door:

Like I said, the more I look at it, the more I think it probably just needs painted. The car had a crappy repaint on it anyway, they probably never did anything with this area and it's faded away. That's my best guess anyway.....

Yours is a vert? If so then yes that looks like its just part of your door frame where mine goes up all around the window but if yours is a vert maybe you don't have the full 'surround' of a door frame?

I think you just need to sand and paint black.
