I have a 1996 351w roller.
I came across a eagle crank shaft .( 4”stroke 4340 forged) from an individual on Facebook for a good price. I ended up buying it. I’m having trouble on choosing brands on the rest of the rotating assembly. I plan on going .030 over. Although the block looks in very good shape right now.. should I just go l eagle with the rods and pistons ? Should I keep stock bore ? . Im lost and what cam to get as well… I Also have 210cc pro comp aluminum heads and a tremec tkx transmission.. I will want to turbo in the future but as of now I would be very happy with a 500 -550hp car. Im building this in my 83 coupe

does anybody have any personal experience or personally know somebody with the 210cc Procomp heads?? If so please share experience thank you..

I moved this in here since it's for the same build.

Procomp are Chinese knock-offs. The castings seem to be 'ok'. I've seen some folks return them for other castings and some build them up and they work just fine.

That’s for the advice. If the bores all look good stick to the stock bore

thanks for moving it.. I am new here and still trying to figure out how to navigate thru this page. I unfortunately bought some used ones on Facebook marketplace .. not knowing too much about them. I just saw 210cc and jumped up quickly. And now I am worried about dropping a valve after I invest in forged rods and pistons..

Drop them off to the same machine shop that has your block. They can look those over too and probably advise you on springs and cam to go with your pistons and rods.

Good valves and valve train parts will keep that valve right where it needs to be. I had one of the valves that came with my AFR 185's come apart and smoke the motor which lead me to buying bare heads and having the gentleman that builds my motors put the heads together with good parts as well. Not saying all assembled heads have junk parts but they are doing everything they can to keep prices down to compete with the offshore stuff.

That makes sense

I have always heard one of the reasons to go with AFR is their high quality parts. Was yours a one off or have you heard from others the same?

AFR [used] to be all hands-on with their stuff. Nothing went anywhere without a bunch of motor-heads snooping all over it, first.

I don't know that [anybody] is that way anymore. All those man-hours means the Chinese are under-selling you. They play the averages and send whatever :poo: is on-deck, out the door. Sure, some come back but what do they care? They're playing the percentage. You'll have to jump through hoops, pay half the shipping, etc.. and so on, if you ever want to see your engine make "Vroom".

So... I whole-heartedly agree with what AeroCoupe is saying:

Get the castings (have them checked out)
Get your parts (and have them all checked out)

Because these steps are skipped by most manufacturers/vendors that deal with us Riff-Raff John-Q Public types.
