Progress Thread “Rising from Ashes 13” 84 SVO build thread

Reminds me of the old guy I learned what little I know about body work / prep / paint. I'd work on a panel, sanding my fingerprints off. I'd say "It looks ready!" He'd come by, close his eyes, run his hands across the panel, then take out a sharpie and make like 25 different low / hi spots and just say "Not yet."
Yep… Im that guy. Do everything by feel

He will give you a bucket with some water and paper and put you to work too.... :)
Wet sanding doesn't bother me. It's the ridiculous little crevices and corners that make me want to throw things. If someone ELSE does it - I might not EVER see those spots that aren't in plain sight - BUT if I do it? I will remember every TINY spot. That's why it takes me forever to do halfway decent paint / body work. When I did my bumper covers on my '04 (it's my daily) I kept repeating "It's 20 years old and a daily driver...." OVER and OVER and OVER while I worked on it.

What it takes to do a show quality paint job. An explosion of pieces. Each one gone over and over and over again. Front and back.

Great job. When you can just concentrate on the process - getting the panels straight, prepped, primed..........it's almost zen.

By the way - I know you like Epoxy - do you use high build after epoxy?
What's your brand for epoxy and other primer?

Thanks. Everything is stripped to metal and gets epoxy dtm primer. I use SPI epoxy and Spi regular build primer as well
As evercoat superbuild.

It's nice to see your work area so much less cluttered with cars now that you have your storage areas built out!
Yea. No cars sit outside now. Even project cars that arent nice yet are indoors. The worst thing for any car that isnt being driven is just to sit outdoors.

I've used the SPI epoxy. A buddy is a true convert - for a long time. I remember him having to call a guy, order over the phone etc. You tried their clear coat?

I remember the first time I tried Evercoat products (over cheaper, easier to find - at least then - alternatives) - repairing lost of plastic motorcycle fairings (track days etc) the difference was eye opening. Just realized how long ago that was. Damn I'm getting old.
