So here’s my metal work 101 for the day. The quarter on this car had 2 gallons of mudd I ground off to get to metal. They put it over bare metal so had some surface rust starting underneath. Anyway. Here’s how I attack a dented up quarter…
I pulled the damaged out as good as I could before epoxy the put 3 coats down. Let cure out. Then take my block and start revealing the remaining low spots and any highs. The low will be shiny because the block is not touching them. Then just start working those areas with a body hammer and dolley slowing getting the lows level while tapping down any highs. All this resulting in only a thin coat of filler to block out.

@95steedamustang I get places do it the cheap way to get the car in and out quick but it isn’t crazy time to do it right.
It actually take me less time to work the metal but more patience…then speading a gallon of bondo and working that down. I think patience may be the issue…or maybe no skill with metal
I'd bet they simply aren't taught to do it the right way more often than not. If you took that to a body shop most of the guys in there wouldn't know how to do it like that, or know how to take the interior apart to gain access to the back side of that panel to do it with a hammer and dolly.
Thats a good point. You do have to take panels off without breaking them which seems hard for some to do
I bet when it comes down to it the cost of doing it right is just not that much more. Obviously it takes a skill set and a desire to do it but the results are worth the extra dollars as you know its not going to crack out, rust out, or fall off. You do really good work man.
You need to stop screwing around with these cars and build a bunkhouse so that I and others have a place to sleep when we come to you to do our internships.

Got the quarter in shape. After 5 coats primer. Blocked it down and only a couple highs and lows to deal with. Your over eager body guy would throw the bondo on but I just block it as far as I can and am doing 5 coats. The thing with filler is you can only cut it with 40/80 or maybe 120 and it actually straighten. Anything higher and your just polishing. But those grits leave sand scratches and you fighting those and they like to reappear so I primer and block that with 180 and 220. No sand scratches and it cuts primer perfect.
Other progress. Basically have the body in good shape and its time for cure and shrink mode. And add some more pieces and get them fitting tight

Well…here it is on a panel that has sat and cured. If this was painted you would see this under your paint. And a total redo in order. But I just block it out and reprime.
